PSG’s goals vs Liverpool & Arsenal were identical!. • Attract press to the left (Mendes x Pacho passing quality). • Manipulate midfield w/ off-ball movement to create space. • Dembélé arrives into space. • Attack the flanks to stretch the backline.

Peep how Wharton clocks Sarr’s positioning without even fully looking at him. Peripheral vision at its finest! Reads the situation with half a glance.

I try to stop myself from talking about Wirtz, but at the end of the day, I just can’t. The timing of his movements, the way he spots gaps, how he disguises his actions, it oozes intelligence. At least now I’ve got a reason to enjoy watching Liverpool.

Wirtz really is lovely. I'm on my rewatch of the game and he's just a genius on and off the ball in possession. Everything so purposeful. So little wastage. A real pleasure to be able to watch him in the PL this season.

Adam Wharton’s spatial awareness in this sequence was ELITE! . Not once did he check his left, and still, he senses Pereira’s pressure, likely through subtle contextual cues (movement or Perreira’s shadow picked up in his peripheral vision.). As he turns, he quickly registers

Liverpool’s pre-season transition issues carrying over to the Palace game?. • VVD steps up on Mateta → 1-1 CB rest defense = more vertical space beside CBs. • Szobo’s instincts getting in the way?.• New build-up distances causing gaps?.

Unfortunately, (for some technical reasons 😂), I won’t be able to post the usual videos for this Liverpool game. If you already noticed, the footage quality wasn’t as usual in the last post. Couldn’t even record the sequences that I needed. Maybe I’ll post later today.

Curtis Jones isn’t playing like your typical Slot number six in this second half. He’s dropping into the backline, looking to create space for others with off-ball movement and attempting to dictate play from deep. Could this be a tactical tweak just for this game? Or is it an.

That sequence leading to Palace’s penalty shows both sides of football: . Wharton’s disguise to draw Wirtz & play through, Mateta’s double move to fool VVD, and poor positioning from Szobo & Jones. Brilliance and mistakes can flip a game in seconds.

A fit Mason Mount is a player any manager would want. Quality in tight spaces and the final 3rd, but the commitment, intensity, and above all, the intelligence in the press over the pre-season, was elite. Undoubtedly United’s best player in that regard.

About the “lack of movement” from the CMs in my last post, this is something I’d want: . Sidesteps, fake runs, or in this case accelerating towards the carrier to separate. Even if you don’t receive, you drag your marker and open space for others.

United improved as the 1st half went on but still far from ideal:. •Direct approach with Mount as F9 didn’t work. •CMs too static = no space to receive + central lanes to 10s/9 blocked. •Mbeumo–Amad link still off (early days or similarity issue?).
