1/ This is infuriating. We have the time and money, apparently, to expediently REMOVE a crosswalk, but it takes years to get around to actually painting one. No wonder neighbors took it upon themselves to act. @SeattleDOTr @KromanDavid

Rogue residents painted a crosswalk in the middle of the night, after waiting years for the city to do it. There’s a name for when community members make unsanctioned changes to city-owned streets:...

In the 1920s car companies introduced the term "jaywalking" as part of their attempt to shift blame for pedestrian deaths. Jaywalking laws today are over-enforced in BIPOC communities and do little to make pedestrians safer. It's time for them to go. https://t.co/L5qv0AfH3k

The Seattle Police Department issued 1,710 jaywalking tickets between 2010 and 2016. Who got ticketed says a lot about jaywalking laws.

In 2021 @FEETFIRST_WA celebrated the John Lewis Memorial Bridge, culminating a decade-long effort to provide access for people who walk and roll across I-5 to and from Northgate's light rail station. Help us keep working by donating to our annual appeal -

Walking is the most basic and fundamental mode of transportation. We have to prioritize it much more as a society.

Thanks to all who pointed out the inconsistency between our job posting & our values. The posting now reflects that it does not require a driver's license or access to a car. Feet First is looking for people who want to make WA accessible for all. No license or car required

It's like we tweeted yesterday - young people have so much to offer in improving our transportation systems and we need to be investing in them more!
Special thank you to both MXT Visuals, who produced the photographs and video, and to the Black, Indigenous and other young leaders of color with Y.E.S. who crafted and executed the vision for this project. 📽️Watch the full video here.

There is absolutely space to center youth experiences navigating our streets, and they're likely equipped with all the tools our leaders are too afraid to use #TheKidsAreAlright

Just presented to the @HIPRC Summer INSIGHT program where high schoolers are analyzing ped injuries/fatality data according to street design. Super impressed with the depth of their questions re: how and why are streets are designed for speed!

Scramble crossings - better for walkability. Good for Issaquah! (though the size of that intersection still leaves much to be desired)
Our new intersection at Three Trails Crossing, on Gilman Boulevard, is now open. This is Issaquah’s first scramble crossing, which means pedestrians and cyclists will now have their own dedicated light cycle to cross in any direction! 🚲🚶

Slip lanes are terrible for walkability. Glad to see Seattle has been closing some of them recently - anywhere else in WA doing this?
Let’s talk about slip lanes, those right turn lanes that prioritize vehicle speed over safety. As drivers enter slip lanes their eyes are most often looking down the street, searching for an opening in traffic not straight ahead where pedestrians and cyclists may be crossing 1/12
