It was nice and sunny about 20 minutes ago at the @DavisCup at Delray Beach, with the doubles being played, and Czechia was ahead in the second set after losing the first set in a tiebreaker. Suddenly the siren went off for lightening and everybody had to evacuate the stadium.

If you watched 15-year old Czech Alena Kovackova win the Wimbledon juniors in 2023, you should keep an eye on her 14-year old sister Jana who won the #JOB23 @veltri_tennis Orange Bowl 14 & Unders in Florida today. Another Czech sister act to watch for in the future!

It was a smaller, more intimate circle of full-time tennis writers and photographers back then. Art Seitz, Mel DiGiacomo, Michael Cole, Carol Newsom and more. Back when the players could hang out freely on the club terrace, watching matches without getting mobbed by spectators.

Everybody is posting their favorite Cliff Drysdale stories, so I will too. I was covering The South African Davis Cup team in the early 1990s when Cliff was team captain. He was like a father figure, making sure I was safe in the wilds of Africa. A true gentleman.

Wow, last I looked, #14 seed Oliver Bonding 🇬🇧 was up 5-3 in the first set of his boys junior quarterfinals, and had served six aces. The next time I looked, Luis Guto Miguel 🇧🇷 won the set in a tiebreaker. Impressive.

The juniors are playing @usopen qualifying rounds today at Cary Leeds tennis center in the Bronx. Among them: 🇧🇷 Pedro Henrique Chabalgoity, nephew of Cláudia Chanalgoity, who played in the ‘92 Olympics and ‘90 U.S. Open. Pedro’s dad Chapecó won two junior Orange Bowl titles.

And you can put down a $500 deposit for front row seats in Arthur Ashe stadium in 2026. Anybody who bought tickets to the Overlook recently is invited to do so. The full renovation on the new stadium entrance, and inside of Arthur Ashe will be complete in 2028.
Today I attended a preview of the future courtside seating for Arthur Ashe stadium for 2026. The @usta will let the general public buy courtside seats, prime real estate formerly taken up by corporate box holders. The renovation will push the corporate suites up higher.

Which team is going to win the trophy? It’s interesting that Pegula/Krajicek 🇺🇸, the 2023 finalists and the only all American team in the finals since 2016 (2024 finalist Donald Young is retired), is replaced with Pegula/Paul. Paul is ranked 578 in doubles. Krajicek was #1.
