#DigitalID isn’t about inclusion, it’s about those left behind, invisibilised & excluded. There is ample evidence that digital infrastructures can have dire (un)intended consequences for documented people w/ VALID claims to citizenship. Think statelessness, Windrush, etc

Starmer's government seems to have achieved the impossible, united a fragmented country against plans to roll out Digital IDs - everyone's on one page, against the absurd idea! A rare sight.

ASK ME ABOUT DIGITAL IDENTITY. I WROTE A BOOK ABOUT IT. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t end well.

I firmly oppose the government’s plans for compulsory digital ID cards. This is an affront to our civil liberties, and will make the lives of minorities even more difficult and dangerous. It is excessive state interference — and must be resisted.

Having studied #digitalID in depth for my PhD and written a book about it - this is already proven to be a TERRIBLE idea. We have been warning the UK government about the dangers of digital ID for years. And no one wants to listen.

To stay afloat, my local bakery is now selling its cheapest bread at £5.50. I can’t afford to buy it, they can’t afford to sell it. This country is so screwed 😭
