Invasive Species Officers for Tay and Esk Catchments Tay: Mark P-C, [email protected]
Tayside Angus S. Aberdeenshire
Joined March 2018
Taking in some of our final traps for the season on a very chilly morning. It's been a great season where we've been able to build up our coverage significantly. Looking forward to seeing further payoffs next year. @SISI_project @NatureScot @taydsfb

Mink #74 for us, caught in heavy snow this weekend. Conditions are getting pretty wild and wintery now so we are starting to remove most of our equipment. We will trap in a few select locations but that's pretty much us for the year now. @NatureScot @SISI_project @taydsfb

Mink #73 for us in the Tay catchment, increasing our all time record. We've worked really hard to expand the network this year and it's great to see the results from that. @SISI_project @taydsfb @NatureScot

A very aggressive adult female caught at one of our Ericht locations yesterday. This is our 70th of the season in the Tay system. It's been our best year ever and we will hopefully have more success before things get quiet over winter. @SISI_project @taydsfb @NatureScot

Control sites for Himalayan Knotweed in the Caputh area showing zero regrowth for 2 consecutive years now. Eradication has likely been achieved but we will check in on the site every few years just to be sure. @SISI_project @NatureScot @taydsfb

Finishing off monitoring surveys of Japanese knotweed control areas on the Tay. Very encouraging results as sites continue to improve. Site here in Aberfeldy shows knotweed essentially gone and we will just monitor if anything comes back in 25. @taydsfb @SISI_project @NatureScot

Decent sized male in one of our Dundee traps early this morning. That's mink 67. Still getting captures across the network, especially in expansion areas but a few from long established locations too. @SISI_project @NatureScot @taydsfb

Called out for Tay mink 64 this morning and 4th from this trap in the Luncarty area. We've still got a fair bit of activity on the network with three mink caught today. We'll keep pushing until the end of the season. @SISI_project @NatureScot @taydsfb

That's mink 61 on the Tay for us. New trapping locations are all having immediate success. Going for our overall record of 71 now, back when the Esk & Tay were a combined project area... @SISI_project @taydsfb @NatureScot

Mink 53 and 54 for us on the Tay yesterday. Captures keep coming in and we'll keep at it. Still at least 6 weeks before things tend to get quiet, we'll see how we get on until then. @SISI_project @taydsfb @NatureScot

Delighted work with newly trained members of the River Earn Improvment Association. If you squint you can just about see John working on some absolute monster knotweed. We're not working on the Earn directly yet but we're thrilled to provide support where we can in the meantime.

We're on fire on the Tay right now with volunteers doing brilliant work to smash through our 2020 record with at least 2 months of the season still left. By using modern technology and expanding our network strategically we've been able to make some significant progress. @taydsfb
We have officially broken the record for the highest ever annual mink captures on the Tay - and it's only September! Huge thank you to volunteer John for catching the 45th mink of the year on Saturday (our previous record in a year was 44) - and the 46th yesterday morning! 1/2

That's mink 44 of the year for us in the Tay catchment. Matching our previous record from 2020. We've expanded into many new areas and are catching new mink as a result, expecting to smash our existing record by the end of the season. @SISI_project @NatureScot @taydsfb

Our 30th mink on the Tay catchment and the 6th we've had this past weekend. Going absolutely mental. First capture for volunteer Brian on Newtyle burn. Great work! @SISI_project @NatureScot @taydsfb
