As a Republican, I am ashamed so many in my party actively perpetuated the falsehood of a stolen election and then blamed others for 1/6. And I am even more disheartened so many in my party knew these things were wrong but were too afraid to say otherwise.
I read Prince Harry’s “Spare” last weekend + was struck by how the British press has unrelentingly, publicly tormented him. It’s vicious bullying that wouldn’t be allowed in most schools but somehow is excused bc it’s adults doing it for profit. Kudos to Harry for calling it out!
Some are criticizing Pres. Biden's promise to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court, arguing he should pick the "most qualified." There are many Black women who would be the "most qualified" + many who've previously been overlooked.
#SCOTUS
"Systemic racism" doesn't contend all people are racist. It contends that systems (i.e., housing) were designed upon racist practices (i.e., redlining, restrictive covenants, steering). These systems then create quantifiable racial disparities (i.e., wealth, school districts).
And it’s official - we have been added to the DNC Convention speaker lineup! Thank you
#YangGang
and everyone else who made this happen! 😀👏🇺🇸
#YangIsSpeaking
Andrew Yang is doing better than many of his opponents bc: 1) he tries to find something to like in other people, even opponents; 2) he talks to people, not at them; 3) he is championing a "big idea" that defines his campaign. This isn't an endorsement. They're just observations.

As I've tweeted about race, faith + oppression during the past months, some people who supported me politically have expressed disappointment. But my life + views aren't rooted in partisan fidelity. They're grounded in the Jesus I love, the call to serve, + the pursuit of justice
As a Black woman, it’s been deeply dispiriting to see centuries of discrimination against Black women be met w/a shrug. And as a Harvard-educated attorney, it’s been demoralizing to see the potential nomination of a Black woman still be met w/protests re: “qualifications.”
Hebrews 12:1 says: “let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” While we didn’t win last night’s race, we ran w/perseverance + finished well. I congratulate Sen. Raoul on his victory, + I deeply thank each person who supported my campaign.

Watching my brother-in-law + former

No disrespect to any of the Final Four teams, but I will always believe the

One of the best pieces of advice I received from a mentor was: Don't delude yourself into thinking the ends justify the means. That adage expresses my views on TX's abortion law. I'm pro-life. But I'm also pro rule of law + pro due process, + TX's law circumvents those values.
In honor of tonight's

pageant, a flashback to the moment when my dream came true. Winning enabled me to graduate from Harvard Law School debt-free, gave me a platform to inspire young people, + opened doors of opportunity. For this moment ... to God be the Glory!
Former First Lady Barbara Bush once said: “Never lose sight of the fact that the most important yardstick of your success will be how you treat other people.” Thank you Mrs. Bush for treating the American people with grace, compassion + dignity.
#LifeWellLived
The criticism Buttigieg is getting for not violating his NDA + identifying McKinsey clients is unfounded. NDAs are contracts, + breaching them violates clients' confidentiality rights + could lead to legal action against Buttigieg. Curiosity doesn't trump contractual obligations.
Yesterday, I walked over 9,000 steps. This is the most steps I’ve been able to walk in a day since being diagnosed w/COVID in December. As a COVID long-hauler, I’ve learned the importance of celebrating small steps and incremental progress! 🙌🏽
As a lawyer, I recently was thinking about faith as a contract. When I was younger, I believed God offered earthly success + heavenly rewards in exchange for following His many rules. Now, I realize He offers Himself in exchange for wholeheartedly loving Him + our neighbors.

Teaching kids the truth about slavery, Jim Crow + legalized discrimination is neither divisive nor political. It’s truth-telling as opposed to myth-making. And with that truth comes, not a hatred for our country, but rather a continued commitment to forging a more perfect union.
Regardless of Nathan Chen's final placement in these Olympics, I hope he has the free skate of his life so he can experience the Olympic moment + joy he has earned.
The Gospel itself does not automatically eliminate racism and its legacy. But the Gospel in action should motivate believers to seek to eliminate racism and its legacy, as racism is an affront to God, who created all w/equal dignity and sacred worth.
The NCAA's denial of
#Illini
Luke Ford's appeal is arbitrary + unjust. While Luke + his family have exhibited the utmost class during this, the NCAA never should've forced Luke to choose between football + family. Luke chose family, while the NCAA continues to choose poorly.
56 years ago today, the Supreme Court issued its decision in Loving v Virginia, invalidating state laws that banned interracial marriage. On this

Before having political discussions w/people, first try to determine whether they're truth seekers or committed partisans. If they're the former, you'll both benefit from the discussion. If they're the latter, you're likely wasting both your time + theirs.
I listened to Travis McMichael's testimony re: why he shot Ahmaud Arbery + am struck by how Travis wrongly assumed the worst re: Ahmaud (that he was a dangerous criminal) yet inexplicably expected Ahmaud to assume the best re: him (that he was a good neighbor who posed no threat)
It appears we’re seeing more gracious concessions this election cycle and fewer refusals to accept the voters decisions. This is good for our democracy + country. No candidate or leader is above the people’s will.
So very proud of my brother-in-law former

Brian Randle + the Phoenix Suns, as they head to the NBA Finals. Brian is blessed to be an Assistant Coach for the Suns + has worked so hard this season! The Suns are a great organization, + I’m thrilled for their success!
We have anti-bullying programs in schools + teach kids they can disagree while remaining agreeable. And yet, we still tolerate, elevate + celebrate bullies in every sphere of adult life--politics, sports, law, businesses, churches, entertainment + media. We must lead by example.
I expect Kofi Cockburn to be in the NBA next season. He's a gifted athlete, and his game continues to improve. He's eager to learn and highly coachable. He's incredibly likable and a natural leader. For the right team, he would add quality minutes + make a key impact!

Praying for the deputies who were ambushed in Los Angeles County. One officer is a 31-yr-old mom of a 6-yr-old. Both officers were simply trying to do their jobs + protect people at a train station. Both deserved to be able to return home safely to their loved ones. 🙏🏾
Some members of Congress have lost sight of the goal of a stimulus package. It’s to provide instant liquidity for small businesses, employees, gig workers + contractors. It’s not to create new corporate, energy or social policy. And it’s definitely not to score political points.
The NCAA continues its long tradition of picking the wrong sides, battles + priorities. Given the recent Supreme Court ruling that went against the NCAA and the new NIL changes, this punishment seems disproportionately harsh + unnecessary.
BREAKING: Illinois' Kofi Cockburn will miss the first three games of the 2021-22 regular season, per release. This an an NCAA suspension required as part of the reinstatement process triggered because Cockburn sold institutionally issued apparel and memorabilia in June
As much as we’d all love
@IlliniMBB
to be playing w/the full roster, I am pleased Coach Underwood appears to be allowing players w/concussions to take time to fully recover. As an alum + fan, I place a high value on the players’ overall well-being, + it seems Coach does as well.
Chase Brown’s exclusion from the 1st Team All-Big Ten is patently absurd. With no disrespect to anyone else selected, omitting the RB ranked 2nd in the nation in rushing (and who put up 140 yards against highly ranked MI) renders this All-Big Ten list almost meaningless.

What impressed me most about Amy Coney Barrett these past few days was that she approached in good faith many people who seemed committed to thinking the worst about her.

I'm appalled that the First Lady's former friend used her access to secretly record Mrs. Trump + then released a book based on those recordings. In IL, you must have consent to record private conversations; more states should enact such laws to protect people's privacy interests.
There’s a gaslighting occurring w/discussions of race. After centuries of race being used to discriminate against Black people, Black people are being told to “stop bringing up race,” as if Black people were the ones who created legalized discrimination + Jim Crow laws in the US.
Billy Graham once said: “Someday you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God.”
I’m wishing you Merry Christmas from isolation b/c I tested positive for COVID-19. My symptoms are relatively mild, so I’m hopeful for a quick recovery. My Christmas wish for each of you—no matter where you are--is a day celebrating the birth of Christ, the hope of glory. 🙏🏽
Many arguments being made against reparations today fail to acknowledge 1) slavery’s true horror, + 2) how deeply slavery’s impact is embedded into our economic/legal systems. While people may disagree re: ways to rectify this, there should be no disagreement re: slavery’s legacy
A young girl recently told me she likes Ruth Bader Ginsburg b/c she was the 1st woman on the Supreme Court. I told her that while I, too, respect Ginsburg, Sandra Day O'Connor was the 1st woman to serve. We can teach girls about Notorious RBG w/o erasing trailblazing O'Connor.
Speaker Michael Madigan just gave my opponent $1 million ... 1 million reasons why Madigan doesn't want me as Attorney General ... 1 million reasons why Madigan doesn't want me as a check in Springfield ... + 1 million reasons why Madigan doesn't want me fighting corruption.
If "through Bloomington" means passing through Bloomington on the way to Champaign-Urbana--home of the Big Ten champions--then we are all in agreement.

Michigan was hit harder than any other program on Deadline Day.
Lost two projected starters in Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate.
What does this mean?
The Big Ten OFFICIALLY goes through Bloomington.
There's an irony in people framing their decision not to be vaccinated for COVID-19 as a "personal choice" but still citing the benefits of herd immunity as support for that choice. It's an individualism only made possible by the collective.
I grieve the loss of David Dorn, a Black retired police captain killed while serving his community. I'm sad some appear to only be sharing his story as a way of playing political gotcha, trying to suggest that those who grieve George Floyd won't also grieve Dorn. I grieve both.🙏🏾
There is something quite whimsical and joyous about the way Yang is running for office. Campaigning can be a grueling endeavor, so I have much respect for candidates who are unafraid to be themselves + add levity to the process. 👊🏽
My favorite ad released during this campaign was the one featuring my 97-yr-old Grandma. She was born at a time when discrimination was the law of the land, but now has the chance to see her granddaughter become the 1st Black woman elected IL AG. Please share + help make history!

I am convinced some members of Congress—on both sides of the aisle—are there as performance artists, nothing more and sometimes less. I won’t name them because it’s uncharitable, and we must stop rewarding bad behavior w/the attention so transparently being sought.
I spoke to a woman today who lost her job b/c her employer just realized she is on probation. Somehow, the background check missed it the 1st time. So although she was doing a great job, she’s denied the opportunity to support herself. We must do better + allow for

My

football season prediction is: 9-3. Our QB will provide the offense w/a lot of options, + our offensive line will give him time to make good reads + passes. Our defense will more than hold their own + create opportunities, + Bielema will keep building a winning culture
Barring kids from learning "uncomfortable" truths re US history prevents them from appreciating the significance of certain people + events. W/o context, the heroism of abolitionists, freedom riders + civil rights leaders is minimized. Banning truth undermines the American story.
My 5-yr-old nephew explaining the “house rules” for UNO: “If you lose, don’t whine...just be happy for the other person.” Good advice in card games + in life.
Contrary to what some are suggesting, there's nothing inconsistent or deceptive in Kamala Harris identifying as a Black woman while also embracing her South Asian heritage. My mom is Black, + my Dad is half Greek. I identify as a Black woman who also embraces my Greek heritage.
I’ve loved America since I was a child. B/c of that love, I want America to become that more perfect union. While my ancestors didn't taste freedom on July 4, 1776, they built this nation too + embody the best of its ideals. So for them, + all who yearn for liberty,

The inability to elect a Speaker shows that there are too many unserious people in Congress. But the disconcerting reality is that those representatives were elected b/c many of their constituents view gridlock as desirable. That’s the more serious challenge in our democracy.
As an

One thing I noticed acutely amidst the craziness and volatility of today was how anxious I felt not being in control + not knowing what the future holds. But it served as a needed reminder that I was never in control, yet I know the One who is.

Our politics, social media + news often is about manufactured division. Very few people are actually upset about the new Ariel being Black, or Starbucks changing its holiday cup, or someone saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. Don’t take sides in fake debates.
I often hear people say "faith over fear" as a reason for not wearing a mask. This is false theology. God has not promised that he would prevent illness, suffering or death. He has promised that He will never leave us, even amidst suffering we face in a broken world.
Much of the criticism directed at "political correctness" or "wokeness" is rooted in a fear of other people now having power to draw the lines of appropriate behavior. The debate isn't over whether lines should be drawn, it's over who gets to draw them.
This is false equivalence. Capt Dorn wasn't killed by public officers acting in official capacity. He was killed by private citizens who will be convicted + can be ordered to pay restitution. Crime victims funds also are available. Capt Dorn + Breonna Taylor both deserve justice!
