Interim Police Chief, Robin Henderson, said children are okay. Still have questions. Henderson said everything is preliminary and the info may change.

Posting this again to fix typo: Morning stabbing turned officer-involved shooting. The police chief said the suspect (shot) & 2 of 3 stabbed are in the hospital. One died. What makes me the maddest—3 kids were in the home at the time. More on @KVUE’s morning newscast at 8.

"The drop in U.S. gas availability so far this week was the most in over a year, with supplies on track to fall by around 9.6 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) from Jan. 8-14 to an estimated 11-month low of 98.6 bcfd on Jan. 14, according to data from financial firm LSEG."

Texans have set an all-time Jan. record w/ 70.9 gigawatts today; tomorrow will likely set the all-time winter record (74GW), except for Uri. ERCOT/PUC called for conservation tomorrow. Key times will be 7-9am Monday and Tuesday. (Note these forecasts bounce around a lot.) 1/🧵

It's gonna be cold in Texas, y'all. Qs on my mind: 1) will the natgas system freeze up (like in 2021, 2022, 2023,...) 2) will it be wet (probably not) 3) will it be windy (probably) 4) will peak electric demand in ERCOT >> summer peak b/c of heating + data centers (maybe!)

This is a good reason to keep an eye on the electricity supply and demand forecast. Jan. 10 projections vs Jan 12. projections. As the weather forecast changes, so does this. Keep track here: https://t.co/YtaFOBSzJw Get alerts: https://t.co/xz86AQi9LY @KVUE

"The natural gas market operates on a combination of non-transparent over-the-counter (OTC) trades and exchange-based standardized contracts in a handful of locations. And the gas markets that are transparent don’t do weekends." #txlege #energytwitter https://t.co/TWmLIWMxWN

SPP's hosting this call to prep for the impending winter storm. Utilities need to reserve natural gas fuels ahead of time, but evidently the gas markets usually are closed up over the weekend. Compounding the problem is Monday is MLK Day, another day off for gas.

ERCOT has issued a Weather Watch from January 15–17 due to forecasted extreme cold weather across the ERCOT region, higher electrical demand, and the potential for lower reserves. Grid conditions are expected to be normal and can be monitored on https://t.co/qI0IdnNJEI. Read more

-Colder temps in 2022 than Feb. 2021 when ERCOT issued 1st alert. (That storm caused blackouts. Hundreds died & let to grid reform.) Higher demand Dec. 2022. No alert issued. Not as many generation outages in 2022. "...likely indicates that winterization efforts" the report shows

@ERCOT_ISO More context: expected power supply is if there are no unplanned/forced outages for power plants or other generators. "Total (generation) outages during Elliott (Dec. 2022) peaked at close to 20,000 MW," shows ERCOT's Winter Storm Elliott Public Report. https://t.co/8FU2sZNP6I

The coldest air so far of the season moves into Central Texas for Sunday and early next week. This cold snap will be reminiscent of the cold snap of December 2022, and will bring multiple hard freezes. The exact arrival time of the arctic front is still a little up in the air.

This is @ERCOT_ISO forecasted electricity supply and demand for next week. More than 101,000 megawatts available is a lot considering our record peak demand was set this summer at 85,508 MW.

He cites better readiness is due in part to the evolving supply chain map, continued growth on grid and emergency management training. Vegas also said they are ahead of schedule on winter inspections.

In the @ERCOT_ISO meeting, CEO Pablo Vegas said both our grid has an increased risk of outages AND they are as ready as ever to deal with challenges. “Both of those facts are true, and sometimes they can seem at odds with each other.” @KVUE
