That completely explains why Andy Weir's #StarTrek pitches were shit and got rejected. Political and social commentary is the cornerstone of almost all stories. At the most basic level, you can't put any characterization, intrigue, worldbuilding, or aesops in without that!

No offense to @ewarren, but all of that money probably has to go toward curbing Trump's catastrophic budget deficits. The good news is that this tax would cut them down by about 33% in one go!

The Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act would generate over $6 trillion over the next decadeβ€”without raising taxes on 99.85% of American households. This wealth tax for millionaires and billionaires could pay for universal child care, free community college, Medicare expansion, and more.

That is laughable. Among other things, the country has a pro-choice majority and still supports Israel. If anything, the Democrats should drop the Assault Weapons Ban, focus on violent illegals, and be critical of the Israeli Right.

Yep. Many episodes are about what was going on "in the now," but the five classic shows still work because the Federation put our political and social ideals directly in front of us. #StarTrek

There are a lot of people saying the only reason people love TOS and TNG Star Trek is because of nostalgia. Maybe some, but we love them because they had truly brilliant writing, and storytelling, and characters we cared about, and great acting, and hope for a better future.

It's rather obvious that some people are objecting to the execution, but others are whining about gay Klingons. The former critique is valid. The latter is not because of what #StarTrek represents.

What's funny is that the idea of Star Trek going back to its roots, still very much laughs in the face of the conservative ideology that has been trying to rule Star Trek for years The only people really complaining about it are older, middle-aged, white people Which is really

Tariffs? Ditto. The President might have a role in combating bad trade practices, but they're a constitutional power that has been explicitly reserved for Congress. Anything beyond combating a practice like the dumping of a good should go through the people!

For war powers, the President should only have a free hand in the event of a sudden attack, the invocation of NATO's Article 5, or time-sensitive intelligence that enables a clean strike on, say, a terrorist. In pretty much every other case, they need to go to Congress.

Far more limited is a tall order, but there have to be strict limits on presidential war powers, the pardoning power, and tariffs. Encouraging your followers to commit crimes just so you can pardon them later is beyond the pale and a grave threat to our democratic republic.

The β€œNo Kings” people support passing legislation to ensure that no current or future president can have so much power, right? To permanently restore the presidency to its far more limited role? Right? Or do they just want a king with a different political ideology?

AI makes that an open question, though. Some tycoons have said that the goal of AI is to eliminate almost all human labor. If that's the case, capitalism's survival depends on policies like a universal access to the means of production, which sort of resembles socialism.

It depends on when that happens in the span of a civilization. If aliens showed up during our most hyper-religious times, that would backfire spectacularly. If they appeared now and offered to help with a vaccine in exchange for trade, that would be justifiable. #StarTrek

Shatner is wrong. Star Trek was political, but it wasn't preachy. It made you think instead of telling you how to think. It changed minds organically instead of trying to force an ideology. And most important, it was well-written by actual writers instead of hack activist.
