Found in a Luxembourg village this morning. Hopeless rearguard action against US cultural imperialism... or a genuine turning of the tide?!🤷‍♂️ No Halloween here🤪

3/ We in Europe have to draw one strategic conclusion. The USA is no longer a reliable or predictable ally. The leaders saw it with full clarity. We in civil society need to understand how deep the crisis is: no state is either safe or secure from territorial breakup ...

I should have been clearer: Both sides (implicitly) agree not to write down any deal. They understand Trump will fill the silence with outlandish claims, delivering him a political win. And our trading partners are obliged to deliver nothing, giving them the economic win.

I was just in Japan for two weeks, and learned a lot from talking Japanese policy wonks about the "strategic ambiguity" at the heart of the US-Japan trade deal, and what this reveals is -- and isn't -- in a number of the President's "deals."

If even liberal and conservative Europeans or Americans come to view Israel as just another Middle Eastern country with a slightly better armed militia then within a generation the diplomatic and military advantage Israel has towards its neighbours will drain away

Interesting priorities... Israel has impressive military, but also a joke of of "justice" and "law enforcement" systems, let alone the tragedy that is human rights there. I used to support Israel, but now it is just another (very well armed) MENA shithole.

Trump has posted a sinister AI video of his future for ‘Riviera’ Gaza. It needs to be seen to be believed: Trump statues; Musk dancing; Trump & Netanyahu sun bathing & drinking cocktails. Monsters rejoicing in their genocide & ethnic cleansing. It is truly racist fascism.

America did not build New York. The Netherlands did. America did not pay for New York. The Netherlands did. America did not bring thousands of settlers to live in New York. The Netherlands did. It is perfectly fair for the Netherlands to be raising questions about New York.

Thread: I found data fraud in multiple clinical trials for generic drugs in China. I've seen limited coverage outside China of the recent controversy over 集采 — centralized procurement of drugs, especially generics. It is a hugely important issue close to my heart.

Germany just reached 100 GW of installed capacity in PV-solar. This delivered 72.2 TWh for 2024. That means the capacity factor of solar in Germany is 8%. They closed a world class nuclear fleet of 20 GWe delivering 150 TWh annually for ... this. I think about this a lot.

1/10 Europe just got a brutal wake-up call about green energy math. When wind & sun disappeared in December, electricity prices shot up 20X. Our current plans for batteries and storage won't solve this for decades. Here's the real numbers 🧵

Experiencing a drawback today of not being in China anymore. Balcony door doesn't close anymore. Management company mentions holidays and a subcontractor, who is off all of August. In China, the building mgmt would have sent somebody within the hour. Just glad it's not winter.
