Sit down for this tale of how the Vancouver Special got its guardians, from lions to pinecones, and what it says about migration and making home. It starts in post-war Italy, when a boy helped repair the Leaning Tower of Pisa... My @TheTyee story. https://t.co/TnoFovQWBa

Columbia University has just set a terrible and dangerous precedent. Speaking out in anguish against war crimes is what we should all be doing. And yes, it will break a few rules. Students should not be punished and silenced for acting based on their conscience.
NEWS: Columbia University is suspending Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) as official student groups through the end of the fall term.

A great Irish poet and singer left us today. She was beautiful, courageous and wore her heart on her sleeve. She was before her time. Nothing will ever compare to Sinéad O’Connor. Rest easy Sinéad.

🇮🇹 End of an era. Silvio Berlusconi has died. Long before Trump, Berlusconi created a TV viewership that became an electorate. @TheAtlantic He exercised huge power for years because of his preternatural salesman's ability to read the national mood. https://t.co/TUt94EKDRJ

The Berlusconi era—full of flashy parties, legal misdeeds, and too much news for the Italian public to keep track of—foreshadowed America’s current predicament.

I am on my hands and knees begging my Asian family to use the dishwashers in the AirBnbs we've been in across Italy. We are eating for five people. There is the stubborn insistence on a myth that we have to wash dishes BEFORE they are put in the wash. God send help
