St Cadfan's, Tywyn, Wales. The church is noted for its Romanesque architecture and for housing the Cadfan Stone (right of pic 4), a stone cross dating from ninth century or earlier which is inscribed with the oldest known written Welsh. 1/2

The painting is at the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Chaldon and dates back to about 1170 AD.

It grew in the sediment against a sea-urchin shell (strictly, echinoderm-ologists would refer to it as the test) which was made of calcite. Then the test dissolved and the impression in the silica of the flint remained...
