A celebration of Bruce's life will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 19th at Coastline Bible Church, 426 S. Mills Rd, Ventura CA. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Ventura County Library READ Adult Literacy Program.

This is Bruce's son, Bryce. It is with a heavy heart that I share news that Bruce passed away last night, April 4th 2022, after a long battle with cancer. He left this world at peace, with his wife at his side. He is at rest now, home with the Lord.

On this day in 1969, Apollo 9 lunar module Spider separated from command module Gumdrop for the first solo flight of the lunar module. Jim McDivitt and Rusty Schweickart flew the lunar module for over 100 miles.

They say pictures are worth a thousand words, but sometimes they leave you speechless. On this day in 1984, astronaut Bruce McCandless made the first untethered spacewalk using the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU).

Although the Lunar Roving Vehicle wasn’t brought along until Apollo 15, the Apollo 14 astronauts had the Modular Equipment Transporter (MET), a two-wheeled, hand-pulled cart used as a mobile workbench. Trail marks from the MET can be seen in this photo.
