As our gov’t shapes markets to make our economy green and competitive, we need to make sure families have the care they need to thrive.  NYC's Pre-K for All showed we can provide care for all well, fast, and democratically.  Thanks to @rooseveltinst for letting me tell the story.

NEW 📰 The overall success of NYC's Pre-K for All demonstrates that the US gov’t can build rapidly without compromising the inclusion of democratic participation. @joshwallacknyc's report shows the promise of using industrial policy for the care economy https://t.co/8MDBvP4HHp

Our expert advisors @emmy_liss and @joshwallacknyc helped create NYC's #UPK program. Now, the city is cutting the budget of one of the country's most extensive preschool programs. Here's why it matters @NewAmerica https://t.co/smiC51oF8b

Universal pre-K was one of New York City’s crowning achievements. Now it’s struggling to meet the needs of all young children across the city — with dire outcomes for families and the economy.

nyc hasn't been paying the preschool and daycare providers that make up its once-lauded pre-k system. one estimate from january put the amount owed to them at ~ $400 million. i took a look at how they're coping for @bw + @CityLab

The mayor inherited America’s leading early childhood education system. Now a depleted education department can’t even pay providers.

The #NYCCouncil is right to keep pushing for 3-K for All. Demand is high: the admin's data shows universal seats are 87% filled overall, over 90% in 11 districts – in a brand new program, post-pandemic, and with little outreach to families.

How did NYC transform its #PreK system from a small program to serving nearly 100k children ages 0-5? In a new blog post, @emmy_liss shows how blending and braiding was a key factor in building the system.

"School officials announced Thursday that organizations who work to properly file invoices will receive at least 75 percent of their contract for the fiscal year ending in June." This policy isn't new today, but has been on the books since providers first responded to the RFP

In @CrainsNewYork @emmy_liss and I argue that we should build on NYC’s success with Pre-K for all and extend the universal approach to child care for all children 0-5. https://t.co/I5cJqBwIsE (1/7)

The best way to foster a sense of common purpose, understanding and hope in our children is to build one free, excellent system of early care and education for all
