The all-out blitz that's going on in state legislatures rn to suppress "woke" viewpoints in higher ed should be getting waaaay more attention than it seems to be:

Here's just a sampling of the bills up for debate right now, as analyzed by @JeffreyASachs : -In NH, profs would be banned from endorsing "divisive concepts." -In GA, as @lindsayaellis reported, a lawmaker asked public colleges to list courses that teach "white privilege"

@JeffreyASachs @lindsayaellis -In AR, a bill would prevent colleges from offering any course, event, or activity that “promotes division between, resentment of, or social justice for” a race, gender, political affiliation, or social class. -In IA, profs would be polled about their political affiliations

Again, this is just a sample. And while most will likely never become law, @JeffreyASachs writes, the sheer number and focus send a message. "If you are a teacher, professor, or university student and are in any way 'woke,' stop. Shut up. We are watching you."

@EmmaJanePettit @drlisadcook A pox on both their houses. The legislation suppressing speech is wrong (I remember similar initiatives from the 1960s and it was wrong then too). But the woke left got in people's faces to pick fights. They should have been emotionally ready for pushback.

@EmmaJanePettit Echoes of @AdamSerwer here: "Left-wing speech, especially speech about race and gender, is viewed as illegitimate and unworthy of protection. Therefore it may be safely censored, 'freeing' students and faculty to engage in more 'appropriate' forms of debate."
