My @CDTLifETIME #PhD project will investigate how we can improve these lab techniques. An ex vivo porcine lung model will be used to grow M. abscessus and applied to antibiotic discovery to consider host conditions. #Biofilms and nutrient availability will be considered.

We need new #antibiotics to treat M. abscessus. However, the laboratory techniques typically used to discover drugs do not represent the lung environment. These conditions often contribute to drug resistance, therefore underrepresenting this during #drugdiscovery. @CDTLifETIME

Improving the physiological relevance of Mycobacterium abscessus drug discovery. Mycobacterium abscessus is pathogen that causes respiratory infections in patients with cystic fibrosis. Drug resistance means that antibiotic treatment is challenging. @CDTLifETIME #lifETIMETC24.
