The issue in my area was boomers and gen x had failed us. Lots of kids turned to drugs because there was fuck all to do. Getting high was the way to escape from life. We saw drug usage sky rocket as they took away places for us to go to and things to do.
Teens who meet up with their friends 'almost every day' is down from 50% in the 90s to 25% today.
Falls off a cliff around 2010, alongside the rise of smartphones and social media.

We had issues where parks and community centers were being closed due to politicians not seeing the point in them. Fields and forests being turned into parking lots and trucking bays. When we went out skating old folks called the police on us. We were treated like criminals.

My nephews have even less places to go to now and because videogames are online only and don't offer couch co-op there's no reason to go to someone's house unless they like board games and table top RPGS. Which are expensive hobbies.
