hitting headlines again will inevitably bring out the ‘we’re too small/insignificant to make a difference brigade’, so time to roll out this mic-drop moment from Rod Carr
@ClimateCommNZ
for y’all to go bust some denialism.

I've just seen a student (rte news) talking about her 1hr commute to college, like it's a terrible struggle. When I was in college most people I knew, myself included, took an hr (some much longer) to get to college. I really don't see the big deal.
Ballinrobe, Mayo! 🇮🇪
Word got out less than 2hrs ago that over 50 non Irish unvetted men were getting planted in the village. The entire community is on the streets! 🇮🇪🇮🇪

@OSullivanSeanie
It wasn't suffering, not remotely. If you call a one hour commute to college 'suffering', with a straight face, I don't Know where to begin!
Absolutely mortifying SF performance on Prime Time. No policy, no solutions, just the usual populist tripe. We're banjaxed if they get into government.
"In case you missed it.." This is hands down the finest example of bitterness and envy and curtain twitching I've seen today. Two people earning decent money can afford to have a wedding reception at a nice place. Oh the scandal! Well how very dare they?! "probably 30k"🙄🙈
In case you missed it, Dundalk FG senator John McGahon got married in Monaghan last Sunday to Oireachtas press officer Aine McMahon. Leo Varadkar was on hand for the speeches at Castle Leslie.
Probably €30k all-in, in case you were wondering.
I've seen Blindboy described as a "genius" so many times on this platform today. My god was there ever a more conspicuous sign of Ireland's descent into populist stupidity...? 😔
I see McDonald is desperately trying to deflect from the negative press SFPIRA received this week re their appalling treatment of women. Kicking up a fuss in the Dail so she can tweet about it - same old trick is getting very tired.
Varadkar's on the ball. Holly Cairns is a politician of the social media age. Twisting an opponent's words to be used for soundbites - that's what the Soc Dems have been reduced to. Populist nonsense with no depth and no answers.
The homophobia and the racism is out in the open now. The have nothing to offer but hatred and stupidity, and is it any wonder they're so against the updating of hate speech legislation...
Irish basketball team refuse to shake hands with Israeli team or, line-up with them at centre court for the national anthems, in protest at the genocide in Gaza and inflammatory and untrue comments made by Israeli players and staff about the Irish players
McGuirk is dangerous because he speaks well and looks respectable. He's much more dangerous than the yobs burning buildings because his rag not only encourages their behaviour, it lures middle Ireland into tacit support for it. People don't learn from history.
I can't believe there wasn't more blowback on McGuirk's comment that the "Government is at war with its own people". That is MAGA like "enemy of the people" inflammatory language. McGuirk knows exactly what he is doing. It is common rhetoric for the new far-right.
The thing they want people to forget is, the very vast majority of people in Ireland and in NI detested the IRA because they were sectarian brutes, but that doesn't suit SF's current campaign to rebrand them as heroes to the under 30s.
A good man, a good leader with a considerable list of achievements. A progressive, probably too progressive for this country. He looks like someone unable to take the torrent of personal abuse anymore. Sad to see.
Queen Eden made it to the
@eurovision
top 5!
Thank you Eden for giving our entire country strength.
Thank you world for proving love will always win against hate.
We love you.
Good night from Jerusalem 💙🇮🇱
Ha! Yes, Fatima, if you run at a garda with a knife you would expect to be shot. But apparently you don't expect to get pepper sprayed if you involve yourself in a far-right riot?! 🙄
@EmmaDabiri
I can't either: middle-class people belittling working-class people by suggesting bullying, rudeness and aggression are working class traits and nothing better should be expected. Ruane is a well-educated person in a position of power - her attempts to intimidate were disgraceful
Irish politician Richard Boyd Barrett on the streets of Dublin today: Israel is a "filthy colonial regime"... we must "resist it, bring it down." The only answer, he says, is

or
#Jenin

This says an awful lot about his inner circle. Where I'm from, if someone's described as "decent, well liked, respected", they are. I don't know what sort of an upbringing produced this twisted individual, but it's not representative of the country.
Enoch Burke dramatically spurned a judge's offer to temporarily release him from jail this afternoon and has returned to Mountjoy Prison, where he has spent over 300 days over his failure to comply with an order to stay away from Wilson's Hospital School in Co Westmeath.
A PFLP flag at TCD. They've been slaughtering civilians for decades, abusing women - a far-right proscribed terror group claiming to be Marxist. Shame on anyone supporting this protest.
@hazechu
Stop insulting people by claiming the ignorant, rude, ultra aggressive behaviour from a woman in a position of power has something to do with class. It doesn't. Bullying is not some "trait" of working class people.
Watching Paschal Donohoe on rte news - if this is the level of "corruption" of current govt ministers, this country has little to be worried about. It's so pathetic.
I was giving out about Paul Murphy's brass neck recently but McDonald is something else. How can the leader of SF stand up and pretend to be outraged about this knowing what she herself represents and constantly defends?!
Sinn Féin Leader Mary Lou McDonald has spoken of the "pain and agony" caused by the Stardust fire. She was speaking in the Dáil after Taoiseach Simon Harris delivered a State apology to the families of the victims | Read more:
Look at the crazy eyes, full to the brim with hate. 😳 He calls for the destruction of Israel but is utterly convinced he's a great, righteous individual.
Yesterday was huge - the largest Palestine solidarity march in Irish history.
The Irish Government are hoping that we will eventually go away. Palestinians need us not to.
- Expel the Israeli ambassador
- Support South Africa's case
- Free Palestine
This is driving Irish antisemites mad.⬇️ Imagine having a problem with a band paying tribute to people massacred at a music festival?! Irish people do. We're a shamefully silly, spiteful little country.
“Stars of David, they took your life - but they could not take your pride.”
U2’s heartfelt tribute to so many innocent young people murdered and brutalized by the Palestinian terrorists of Hamas at a music festival on October 7, since months ago.
A distinction between some murders & other murders? Not to mention armed robberies, kidnaps, assaults, extortions & so much more...
Ms McDonald’s defensiveness when pushed is telling.
RBB has the understanding and maturity of a teenager - out with the scarf around his neck, roaring a load of simplistic one-sided idealistic claptrap, when he wouldn't even stand up when Zelensky addressed the Dail. Poisoned by propaganda.
Israel is committing 'crimes against humanity', People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett has said in the Dáil, as he called for sanctions. Taoiseach Leo Varadkar replied that Israel is 'the closest thing to a democracy' in the region | Read more:
Virgin news led with a large feature on a soccer match, then a few sensationalist but minor stories...then Varadkar's visit to Ukraine was brushed over. RTE is leading with the visit. Public service broadcasting is important.
Lots of homes available outside of Dublin. The idea that an architect has to move to Scotland and commute to Dublin, isn't credible in any way. It's laughable.
Met an architect today moving to
Scotland so he can buy a home for his family as he can’t afford to rent, or buy and work here, he is 50 not 40, 30 or 20. He never recovered from the first recession . He will commute to his work in Dublin .
Mr rape isn't REALLY that bad if "oppressed" people do it, tries desperately not to be outdone by Paul Murphy in the battle for supreme prat of Ireland. Paul's got the tassels though.
Irish Comedian Tadhg Hickey
@TadhgHickey
lays Western hypocrisy bare for all to see:
"Palestinians are a proud people who've had their land confiscated.. yet when they fight back for their liberation, we're made to feel.. they don't deserve freedom fighting & they're terrorists"
A SF rep claimed Israel has been orchestrating a genocide since 1946, (?). Now, Brolly comes out with this. Can everyone stop pretending this obsession with Israel is anything other than blatant antisemitic hatred. It has noting to do with concern for Palestinians.
Some say this should be the end of his career as a columnist and as a contributor to tv and radio. Truth is, he’ll get away with it because of where he works. Anywhere else in Europe, and he’d be gone.
The Star of David represents a Jewish identity, not Nazism. Shameful.
Our letter is now in published in the Irish Times.

Academics call on Irish universities to suspend ties with Israeli institutions'
The full list of over 600 signatories can be viewed in the IT's online version:
This is typical of the pro-Israel lobby. They completely ignore the mass of the Palestinian people and the agony Israel has visited on them and equate the entire Palestinian cause with terrorism.
Well, we in Ireland know something of this from historical experience.
The 'brilliant' Connolly who went on a jolly to Syria and was toured about by Assad's men. The 'brilliant' Connolly who refused to show support for Zelensky in the Dail. The 'brilliant' Connolly who has a problem with "Jewish supremacy"... 🙄 Brilliant is not the word I'd use.

I don't know what's more embarrassing: Glen Hansard declaring he's some sort of housing expert or O' Broin tweeting about it. Good god we're going to be led by donkeys in a few yrs. It's depressing.
‘Hansard switched the focus from love to politics. He dedicated ‘Rent Day Blues’ to anyone who grew up under the leadership of FF or FG.
Hansard declared SF TD Eoin Ó Broin the "only Housing Minister" who can effectively combat the housing crisis.’
If Israel is banned from the Eurovision, the war will automatically end and Palestine will be "free." Well done Irish artists and artists around the world! They're almost better than the Dublin women's football team.
@OSullivanSeanie
It's college, the most care-free time of your life. Siting on a train or bus, for an hr, in order to get there is a v easy thing to do. I loved commuting - relax , listen to music...it's really not suffering.
I hope the Irish government doesn't bow to opposition or public pressure. Tagging ourselves to South Africa, a govt that supports Russia's invasion of a democratic nation, is not a good look, and it won't make a blind bit of difference to Gaza.
MaryLou McDonald proudly carrying the coffin of a PIRA psychopath who destroyed innocent people's lives, and she has the temerity to portray herself as a champion of 'ordinary' people. It's sickening.

Paddy Cosgrave has announced that Ireland is a failed state. 😳😂Now, if there was any evidence needed to prove that eejit is never to be taken seriously, it's that.
"No amount of spinning from Helen McEntee will change the fact that the vast majority of the EU’s Asylum and Migration Pact is not in Ireland’s interests."
@mattcarthy
Leo Varadkar's response to Fr Sheehy's comments says a lot about the man - always level-headed,measured and reflective of having genuine respect for democracy. He could have used this for political gain, instead he rose above it.
BREAKING: The “few bad apples” line pushed by the UN has just been obliterated. The Wall Street Journal front page is reporting that an estimated 1,200 Unrwa employees in Gaza are actual “operatives” of Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and about half have close relatives who

One of my fears with a SF government was that they'd inevitably return to being vehemently anti EU when looking for someone to blame for failures. They're already doing it now in opposition, recklessly growing the anti EU feeling the far right are trying to stir. Not fit for govt
'For far too long Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have been far too deferential to the European Union. Sinn Féin is different' - SF leader Mary Lou McDonald speaks at 1916 event at Arbour Hill

Hume: "There is not a single injustice in NI today that justifies the taking of a single human life. If I were to lead a civil rights campaign today, the major target of that campaign would be the IRA"
He won >50% of the Foyle vote at the next election. Who was Hume gaslighting?
@MissEllieN
I knew people coming in from Lucan, Greystones Tallaght, and various places, and it used to take them ages, but nobody seemed to care. I'm sick of the whinging over nothing.
He wants people to know what he stands for. He stands for anti science, stupidity, and the cushy number in Brussels he thinks stupid people will gift to him.
A man who has multiple wives, who lives or wants to live under the same roof with them, who brings up children together with them and plans to do so for a lifetime, is obviously in a durable relationship with all of them. Hard to expect that a judge would never determine that
It's really disturbing how 'zionist' is thrown about as an insult, used with the same venom as 'Nazi'. Don't people have any awareness of why Jewish people, the most persecuted minority in history, might have felt the need for their own state?!... for their own safety?!
@IreneWinters
That's a disgraceful statement. There is no poof of a genocide. Israel is a nation at war it didn't start against genocidal terrorists. A "race" isn't being exterminated, and comparing this war to the Holocaust is appalling.
Here it is. Online version out tomorrow.
‘Irish people will follow the well-paved path of the citizens of so many nations before them: walking through quarters where the whisper of Jewish memory lingers, a memory that may, over time, also be erased.’
This is for my ancestors.
Ireland is the 7th most democratic nation on the planet. 🇮🇪👏 We should be very proud to be placed alongside the Nordic nations & New Zealand. And fortunate to be part of just 8% of the world population who live in a full democracy.

@GerryAdamsSF
This is the equivalent of holding up that Kingsmill loaf. Mocking the murder of two young children is beyond deplorable. SF/PIRA are a blight on this island. Deplorable.
@MaiaDunphy
Maybe you could spare a thought for all the Israeli women brutally raped and tortured by Palestinians, and the hostages still in Gaza (if any are still alive).
@TCDSU_President
So tell me what you know about PALETINE ? "Oh yah, it's loike this place somewhere and loike evil white supremacist settler-colonialist Jews are loike oppressing the loike indigenous population of PALETINIANS...Loike TCD is loike oppressing us. We are all PALETINIANS... "
And there we go. She's back to normal. You'll never see her stand with the people of Israel but she's out in a flash to wave the Palestinian flag as if the massacre last weekend never happened.
The consequence of O'Broin's tweet - an anti-migrant clip (I don't want to share the original) featuring an eviction in England, but claiming it's Irish. SF bring nothing but hate and nastiness to this country.
A lovely, stirring piece about Martin ferris here. He never did anything wrong, ever, and then one day he woke up and found himself in prison. It was a terrible shock.
This is exactly it.⬇️ SF have no loyalty to Ireland, or the 'Free State' as many of their louts still label it. They only have loyalty to SF. They're more than happy to rip this country apart if it suits their needs.
At a time when we should be united to face down these absolute thugs who wreacked havoc in our city and need unity and stability, Sinn Féin play politics and try to cause instability.
From Nov. 21: Paschal Donohoe's ex-driver has tried to enforce illegal evictions for a convicted fraudster
He's Donohoe's FG constituency treasurer and manages a firm that's bought two distressed properties from a vulture fund directed by an-ex FG cllr
They're trying to undermine it because they're trying rewrite history, hoping people forget the sort of vicious scumbags they actually are. And immoral, selfish idiots who think they're going to get free everything are more than happy to go along with it.
The Palestinian people and their resistance are free of people that present themselves as demons ,running around naked with LGBTQ flags and a Keffiyeh.
There are boundaries and limitations. The Palestinian resistance are religious fighters before anything else.
Wow. "Deport!" SF have turned Right so fast they have whiplash. She's been talking to "good" people, you see, "concerned" citizens...like her "good republicans." Remember the 'vote left, transfer left' brigade? I wonder if they've copped on to SF yet? 🙄
Because Ireland has a problem, a bigotry and hypocrisy problem and the more SF are normalised in this country, the worse it's getting. Some of us flagged it in 2020 when people who knew better decided to hold their noses and vote for them anyway. They bring nothing but hatred.
If anyone else put out a sweeping sectarian statement like this, it would be called a dog-whistle. But its Joe Brolly (who incidentally believes he has a positive contribution to make to political office), and so many people just roll their eyes and go "That's Joe".
Why?
This guy thinks Martin is a disgrace for visiting the site where a brutal pogrom took place. This is antisemitism writ large. A cohort of Irish people might think this is normal and acceptable. It's not.
Maybe now that Chay Bowes is finally, fully out of the closet as someone on the Kremlin payroll, the Irish media will inform citizens about the man who tried to destroy the government and maybe even probe why he wanted to do that...
