New special issue 🚨! To commemorate the 20 years of SSWG, Conservation Biology will have a special issue that aims to reflect critically on the application and integration of the social sciences into conservation science and practice. ✨ Deadline for abstracts: 20 Dec 2023.

There has been rapid growth in the promotion of #KCP & it holds promise for meaningful marine conservation outcomes. Yet, KCP is not a panacea. We encourage those involved in or considering co-production actions to engage carefully & critically to make KCP more than a box to tick

Our key highlights were: 1) Recognizing diverse motivations; 2) The influence of identities, positionality and values; 3) Governance capacity relating to spatial & temporal constraints; 4) Institutional reforms & 5) The relationship between knowledge, data sovereignty &governance

We are (or have been) embedded in the case study contexts we examined. As such, our analysis is based on an extended period (> 18 months) of individual and collective reflection through a series of structured virtual workshops & follow-up individual or small-group conversations.

A qualitative and reflective approach was used to examine multiple dimensions of the interplay of KCP, governance, and power in several marine and coastal contexts, including Canada, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea
