It seems to me that a significant part of academia hasn’t gotten the message that politicization of what we do has harmed our standing with the public and put us in a weak position.

The stronger a scientist’s political post, the more it hurts their credibility and engagement. Especially with people who disagree.
CDC, BLS, Fed, DIA purges/resignations very concerning. Good governance matters. But field experts (incl. in universities) *have* to act politically neutral b/c we are *clearly* personally more left than median. Why would you literally end this important letter with pronouns? 1/4

When I got tenure, I decided to use it start a new research agenda, studying US science in the 20th century, how it became dominant, what held it back, and what we can do better. Here's the first pub (with Scott Kim).
Analyzing scientists' biographies during the baby boom, we find that mothers have a unique life cycle pattern of productivity. Children reduce the productivity of mothers but not fathers, with important implications for promotions and participation. https://t.co/z1BzM2Tv3m
