In Finland, newly minted PhDs are given both a hat AND a sword. The only thing I will be debating on the matter of my doctorate is whether or not I should retroactively buy myself a sword.

Thoroughly enjoyed rewatching the classic “Mr. Smith goes to Santa Clara” this weekend.  IYKYK — this is a niche tweet

One year ago, I made the jump from academia to tech. It’s been a wild ride so far, so I wanted to share a few reflections on the transition for others that might be considering tech roles. 1/many

TLDR: I'm hiring TWO Research Policy Positions to join my growing team here at Meta on Privacy & Data Policy. These roles sit at the intersection of evidence-based policymaking, emerging tech (e.g., Metaverse!), and information policy. (1/??)

Almost 4 years ago when a recruiter reached out I was deeply unsure about this career pivot (I expected to graduate & work for the USG), but I’m still here embedded within issues I care about. I hope you consider exploring these roles & bringing your experience to Meta! (fin)

I’ll do my best to answer questions about these roles & working for Meta! (Not a drop of KoolAid around my team--I want to put actions behind your good ideas and critical thinking as best we can) Our job is to work together and make progress on hard policy issues.

This is one of the things I loved about Zoom teaching—there were so many more tools and outlets for students to participate via polls, chat, reaction emojis, DMs on rough ideas they weren’t sure about, etc. Having a co-instructor made full use of the tools possible.

Just because a student does not raise their hand, does not mean that they are not thinking deeply about the content. We need to broaden what we mean by engagement in our classrooms/schools. This will invite/value more students in the learning process.
