Perfect way to end Inside No. 9. Also, that *was* an extremely niche joke about a particular incident in Doctor Who fandom, wasn't it?

73 Yards made perfect sense to me. All the genres layered on top of each other - Welsh folk horror, trad sci-fi, political thriller - are a shell game, shuffling around a story that's ultimately about how it feels to be abandoned your whole life.

My reading is that Ruby stumbles into a fae otherworld via the broken circle, and there finds herself half suited to the laws of that world, so thwarting an incursion by the King of the fair folk, because she is herself a changeling child with otherworldly streak of her own. To round up these thoughts: 73 Yards evokes Welsh myths of fair folk and the Otherworld, typifying this season's supernatural trappings. It builds on and parallels similar ideas in Battlefield which establish these myths as rooted in a Doctorless parallel reality. (26/28)
