Here's an explainer thread about what I think would happen in special education if the US Department of Education went away. I have no insider knowledge about plans, but this thread is how I would do it. đŸ§”.

The Chief of Naval Operations has the legal authority to enlist citizens of the Philippines directly into the US Navy (hundred year old law). Day 1, the new CNO needs to hang out a sign in Manila to recruit the best Filipino civilian mariners to work our sealift ships.

In the past 24 hours, I’ve spoken to some sources and I will say that they’re going to be a lot of people who feel ridiculous for what they have said to defend John Bolton after they find out what he did. At the head of that list is @RepRaskin.

Hey @TheFIREorg, what’s your take on “your employer can limit your first amendment right of freedom of speech if you are not furthering the mission of the school district” in this context?.

It also took Arlington County a full decade to fully desegregate schools, a level of urgency that will be familiar to anyone who had kids in northern Virginia schools in 2020 and 2021. @angryarlmom.

Let’s pause here to note that Brown v. Board was decided in 1954, five years prior to the Arlington desegregation, if we’re going to claim relevance for things our school divisions did more than half a century ago.

Arlington was the 1st school district in Virginia to desegregate in 1959. This is entirely unacceptable &flies in the face of the work we have done to be an inclusive & welcoming community for all. We do not fight for progress by putting others down, we fight for equality for ALL.

the website for @OrchidInc portrays a presumed couple scrolling thru their unborn children & then shows them clicking on the profile of each one. can’t imagine the next, but presumed action—choosing one of your children to live & the rest to be discarded. this is not “healthcare”

And those losing lawsuits will lead to journalistic pile-on about the false positive rates and all those families who had healthy kids will feel they wasted their money. They’ll sue too, and call their Congressmembers, and the regulations and lawsuits will end the ride.

Because these are rich couples with money to burn, they’re going to sue the snot out of Orchid for misrepresentation. These couples are going to win because juries don’t understand math and science but are very sympathetic to disabled babies.

So, if 1,000 low-risk couples buy Orchid’s services, you’re going to end up with eight or nine kids with profound autism that could not possibly be detected by the methods used.

But let’s assume they’re using tests with a somewhat smaller false positive rate or testing for fewer diseases, such that most parents only get 1 or 2 embryos with true or false positives. They’re going to feel like they dodged a bullet, until
