Seeing the barriers for IMGs to get US clinical experience, I started an initiative to have a list of programs, hospitals/clinics that offer US clinical exp for ALL. I ask every IMG to complete this very brief form to help your fellow IMGs
Wishing the best to the interns starting this week. You earned it!

**Why this personal statement is excellent - Internal Medicine.**
Here's an internal medicine personal statement. See how the first paragraph so concisely gives a lot of info about his/her skills and strengths.
Interview setup - notice how the ring light is kept on the side and not in front of the applicant. This is to avoid reflection of the ring light on the glasses. Thank you

Great point! Would like to share that for those not comfortable staring at the camera lens here is a strategy: I recommend resizing the zoom window and bringing it close to the camera lens (see pic). This allows one to look at the interviewer while also maintaining eye contact.
Here's my 2nd list of questions to ask the residency program director or interviewing faculty member. Let me know if I have left something out or if you need clarification.

Here's a smart way to find an observership, externship or research assistant positions in the hospitals or clinics in your city using the power of Linkedin. This strategy also works if you are searching for telerotations to gain US clinical experience.
Using ACTION words in your personal statements can make a huge difference. 'I helped assemble a study guide for med students...' if revised as 'I created a study guide for ...' becomes much stronger. Programs crave residency applicants who are active, responsible and creative.
Here's what a virtual residency open house looks like: You get to meet the PD, chief residents, residents/interns, ask all your questions and if you do get invited at that program, mention to the PD that you attended the open house.

**What is an interviewer trying to assess at the interview? **Whether you can demonstrate as many of the 6 ACGME core competencies as you can for a physician at your level of training (i.e. starting residency).
**Why this personal statement works!**
Here's a general surgery PS -it's written very well, though I wish it had a few more details as I mentioned in my bolded comments in the PDF.
I started reviewing first drafts of residency PERSONAL STATEMENTS- How does this ending sentence in a personal statement make you feel: "My passion is to continue to be able to practice being a doctor wherever life takes me, be it in my birthplace or in another country."?
You must have heard me use 'scholarly activity' all the time instead of 'research' in your personal statements and interviews. Tho' similar but 'scholarly activity' is certainly more FEASIBLE and can be completed during RESIDENCY. Here are the possibilities in scholarly activity.
@SeeFisch
Maybe it's time to consider rephrasing 'letter of rejection' as 'letter of ineligibility'. Or 'letter of invitation' vs 'letter of notification' - sometimes, the word 'rejection' makes the receipient feel inadequate. Thanks
@SeeFisch
for being the teacher of teachers! 😊
Here's a form that I created to quickly jot down information about a residency program right after the interview. You could also use this to ask questions to the interviewer about the residency program.

Here is the power of twitter in finding research opportunities: Fascinating to see how twitter connected this medical student with teaching attendings who could use some help with research. If it worked out for this medical student, it can work out for anyone!

S: I saw a pt in FM clinic with COPD who had ?s about her inhalers.
A: I educated her about need for bronchodilator use as prescribed, showed how to use and made sure she could obtain them.
R: At the end of the visit, she appreciated my advice and that she could understand me.🙂
Here's ***a shout out to all the International Medical Graduates*** who brave all the **odds** stacked against them to become **highly successful physicians in the US**. The pic is from the UK, but IMGs whether in the UK or US face the same challenges. ***Hats off to you!***

“I am just an ER doc.”
The next time you hear that, think why thats being said- helplessness, lack of confidence, burnout?

Importantly, in the residency personal statement, these applicants were able to describe how the skills achieved while pursuing these hobbies would make them a better doctor.
"Dear

IMO no one has time to search a residency applicant on twitter by entering the AAMC ID. Also, I suggest treating the AAMC ID as personal identifier i.e. keep it confidential. Writing about oneself, interests/hobbies/skills is fantastic enough. Ccing

This NEJM 2019 paper has very concerning and disheartening findings. I pray that you all ** take your well-being very seriously** both for personal and professional reasons. No doc should have to go through burnout and mistreatment during residency.

**Why this personal statement works:**
An Emergency Medicine personal statement. Written well, esp the part about **why the applicant chose to pursue** EM that can be used for other specialties.
