Is this because many of our theories and applications endure in both? Regardless of who takes the bread home, incentives and choices can still be analyzed in similar ways. Economics still exists under anarchy.
In the vast majority of US PhD programs in Economics, you go through the entire program without hearing the words "capitalism" or "socialism" once, and I think that's beautiful.
