Had an 8th grader bench 225 today. When he first started with me, he could not bench press a 45lb bar.

Long story short measure everything, and you will find all of the holes and all of the peaks and everything in between.

I knew the answer internally. If their maximal strength is improving then everything is improving. That led to a deeper dive into making sure you measure absolutely everything. From daily body weight to how many sessions they get in during the month to how long they’re in the gym

A conversation that I had with one of the parents of the kids I train, who also happens to be one of my coaches when I was in high school and now friend sparked this. He asked a simple question that stuck with me since I started coaching. “How do you know a kid is improving?”

The biggest thing that stayed constant, regardless of exercise is measuring everything. This is what dictates all of the programming today.

My programming is drastically different than it was one year three years and five years ago. The few constant things are box squatting, sleds, reverse hyper, sumo deadlifts.
