Finally, EWA models can be used for many diverse study systems, from lab experiments with humans, field experiments with animals and less controlled observational settings.

Another perk: EWA let's us simulate data we plan to get from experiment/field study and evaluate analytical approach before collecting data.

EWA = Experience-weighted attraction, a class of dynamical models that combine individual reinforcement learning and use of different social cues (payoff, conformity, age, etc.). By including individual-specific learning parameters, we can account for heterogeneity.

(Animal) culture requires integrated study of cognitive, social and demographic factors and has important conservation implications!.

Conclusion: Just avoiding costs of individual learning is not enough to increase population fitness (i.e. Rogers' "paradox"). Contingent strategies that copy first and innovate if unsucessful will do, as will many other things. Better question is how to NOT solve Rogers' paradox!.
