Leadership is fully embracing our collective humanity & modeling it for those in our care.

The purpose of leadership is to listen, inspire, hold space for others to make meaning, model excellent pedagogy, and build a culture of transformation. There is no hammer in this picture. It's about slowing down, really seeing/hearing people, & moving with humility + integrity.

History often shows that following the youth is a move towards change. Grateful for their perseverance, even when it's not their burden to bear. WHEWWW! Encourage the persistence of a young person in your life, by showing them they aren’t alone in their resistance ✊🏽 🔗 👇🏽

A few weeks ago, parents, activists and educators in a red state where Republicans hold a legislative supermajority successfully beat back an anti-history (CRT) law, & yet I saw no national coverage of it at all. This says something important about media.

As a former student under your charge who still remembers you walking the hallways of my high school, be better. Do better by teachers, you know our value. And ultimately, remember the humanity of everyone you serve — not just the ones with the loudest voices. 4/4

Bill 1134 doesn’t protect students. It doesn’t support teachers. It doesn’t offer an antidote to parents with concerns around curriculum. Instead, it creates division and feeds an illogical fear of public education as indoctrination. 3/4

people who haven’t been in classrooms for close to two decades shouldn’t make school policies without significant input from those most impacted — students and teachers. 2/4

.@RepTonyCook I’m an educator in Indianapolis. Before I had my own classroom, I was a student at NHS during your time as principal. Here’s what I’ve learned from both experiences — teachers should be trusted, students should engage in the process of critical thinking, and 1/4

To my colleagues on the other side of the aisle….Let teachers teach; let students learn. The true essence of a free and public education is at stake. Oppose HB1134 and SB167. Reach out to your elected officials at

None of us are absolved from our humanity. We must make one conscious choice and then another and another and another until what IS innate is love & truth & freedom.

bell hooks made it clear that men also die from patriarchy. Tht patriarchy leaves men emotionally unequipped to deal with themselves or the world. She taught me that patriarchy is not innate, bt LEARNED & TAUGHT, sadly sometimes by mothers and sisters to their sons and brothers.

It’s actually simple: If you can feel pride in things you didn’t personally take part in, then you can feel shame in things you didn’t personally take part in. Some of you are motivated to make this hard, but it’s only hard bc you want the glory of our history but not the burden.

#WEAREBD and our community is one of JOY and excellence. Ben Davis is dance battles in the commons, slurpees from the spirit shop, laughter in the hallways. Ben Davis is brilliance in the classroom and humanity all around. There really is a reason they call us Giants.

When we challenge our biases and beliefs, we aren’t pushed towards “the other side” — we are guided to the center of our humanity. Instead of being rooted in what we know, we find a firm resting spot in who we are, both individually and collectively.

A balanced argument doesn’t weigh two sides equally. It weighs the strongest evidence more heavily. Critical thinking isn't about representing every view. It's about recognizing your biases, and giving serious consideration to facts that contradict your hopes and beliefs.

As the world focuses on the dramatic - those Afghans who are managing to get out - the fire in me to invest in the education of Afghan girls who have no way out grows brighter, stronger, and louder. 3/6
