2025 EHS valedictorian and Trojans football player Bernie Cantorna mentioned in his speech last spring that he appreciated our focus on writing down gratitudes. To paraphrase, "even when things seem bad, you can find good." Today we discuss this. https://t.co/h1KycuhKmB

Energy drinks are bad for students. They are bad for athletes. Parents - please get a good read on what your student is actually consuming on a daily basis, and when. True performance enhancers: sleep, water, quality food.

The FDA recommends that people age 10-18 have no more than 100mg of caffeine per day. For some reason "Bang" energy drinks think packing 300mg in one drink, marketed and flavored to appeal to a young audience, is a great idea. (So does Celius). credit: cafely.

When student has an energy drink at 12pm, nearly half of the caffeine is still in the system 8 hours later. Have one after school, it's still half there at midnight. Sleep is absolutely disrupted. Sleep is one of the greatest performance enhancers there is. Caffeine crushes it.

When a player mentioned in passing that he had 260mg of caffeine yesterday, I got worried. Here's a dive into why students should avoid energy drinks. To start with, caffeine disrupts sleep. Notice the caffeine half-life data from Clinical Toxicology, 2016.

And the upside to this is what? Getting 3-win teams and even some 2-win teams into the playoffs?

Taylor Winkelmann is the head coach of the 9u Brimfield JFL team. He was a senior OL/LB on the 2000 Trojans team. When he asked about playing games on the varsity field, it was a very quick yes. Go Trojans! Go Indians!
