They would probably hate it. Like most of what I hear from Cole, I feel like he fits the need for a conscious-ish, lyrical MC that knows how to write mainstream songs, but makes sure to keep all bars as "on the nose" as possible. It's lyricism with training wheels, but necessary

Mainstream does what mainstream has been doing for years now: plucks trends from indy/under the radar artists and packages it for mass distribution. It’s cool on a case by case basis, but it’s also why there has been such little creative direction driven by mainstream stables

*Most* MCs are not best served by drumless instrumentals. The flip side is that you can really hear the nuances that makes a MC special over drumless beats.
