The seller gets a lump sum and a monthly payment to live off in retirement and get to live in their home until they die, and the buyer gets to buy a property for a fraction of the price. They just need to wait for the seller to die 👀.

Just found out about the Viager system of buying a house in France. Essentially ‘buy’ a house of an elderly person for a fraction of the price and wait for them to die to move in. Wild.
