How can #AI benefit #biodiversity? Using horizon scanning, conservation scientists, incl. @FinnDanielsen, & AI experts identified 21 ideas. Important to better connect AI with ecological & social realities of conservation actions on-the-ground. New paper! https://t.co/YbSaNFCG1t

The AI for Conservation horizon scan was a fantastic meeting between AI and conservation experts to scope out how AI can and will make an impact on the field of conservation @ai_cam_mission
Delighted by the AI@cam workshop to produce a horizon scan of AI opportunities and challenges in relation to conservation.

Very excited to be involved in this project - I think there will be lots of novel tools that come out of this partnership @Cambridge_Uni @ai_cam_mission
First meeting for the AI for Climate and Nature project including collaboration with Google Deepmind and use of the amazingly powerful DAWN supercomputer. Ambitious plans to synthesis evidence and create an evidence pipeline for policy makers and practitioners. Exciting!

Excited to share that @AlecChristie888 and I, along with colleagues in the Department of Computer Science and Technology, have been awarded a grant to build new AI tools to help integrate evidence and data into conservation decision making - a really exciting challenge!
A collaboration developing #AI for climate and nature will provide relevant and robust information for researchers and decision-makers working on climate and biodiversity conservation, from @DrSAReynolds @AlecChristie888 @ErikMackie @CambridgeZero @ConservEvidence #AI_deas

Presenting our work in @ConservEvidence on Metadataset at the @BritishEcolSoc special interest group on Invasive species. Some great feedback and lots of interest in the project and dynamic meta-analysis! #invasivespecies #conservation
'Meta dataset: using global evidence for local decision making' - our 5th Lightning Talk of the day by Sam Reynolds - great work!

We have a new opinion piece out in @PNASNews in which we argue that we need to make evidence synthesis more relevant to policymakers and practitioners and offer a way to do this

Flexible synthesis can deliver more tailored and timely evidence for research and policy

More important work coming from members of the @ConservEvidence team. Current PhD student Ash Simkins has led a critical review on the presence of infrastructure within the worlds most important areas for biodiversity.
At least 80% of the most important areas for biodiversity on land contain infrastructure, and this is likely to increase! New paper from @BirdLife_Sci @wwf_uk @WWF @WWFNorge @Cambridge_Uni @ConservEvidence

How do you solve a problem like Spartina (with a deadline of just a few days)? It takes a powerful open access tool and an ambitious team of international experts. Find out more in our latest blog:

Really happy that this report and meta-analyses we produced have gained some traction and got under the noses of the right people in China. Read all about it in Science ( https://t.co/RhzxWId0JE) and you can read the raw report here ( https://t.co/TrPQZTEoau)!

1/8 🧵The coast of China is choked by a green invader, #Spartina alterniflora. China announced a bold nationwide removal effort, and coastal provinces were set a 6-week deadline to make a plan. Collaborating with our Chinese colleagues we synthesised the evidence!

Only 27% of water bird populations benefit from protection of their habitats, when properly analysed with BACI design. BRILLIANTLY explained by the awesome @hannahchoppie Management of protected areas is really important! #BES2022
