The 5 C’s: Calling it out, cancelling, calling in, calling on, & calling it off. If you’re called out personally, thank them. You’ve been gifted with their time & attention… say “thank you for bringing it to my attention” & you’re going to consider what they said.

The government does the same thing as call out culture: Silence them Prison them Exile them Dispose of them We need to call people in, w/ love & respect, not anger, blaming, & shaming. Hold them accountable, but don’t humiliate for a mistake. Then call on them to do better.

Call out culture may ruin progress we’ve made Proven allies - similar experiences Problematic allies - white women who don’t understand the reality of black women Potential allies - they don’t know correct language but they’re there for first pink pussy hat march

Why is it all [reproductive justice] so hard to achieve? Current deconstruction of democracy. People who should be working together aren’t. They’re responding with knowledge, language, and words against each other instead of using those to move things forward.

@drimran_farooq @PhDVoice @PhD_Genie Instead of focusing on only giving feedback, let’s start having relationship-centered feedback conversations. Currently at #ICCH2023 where Dr. Calvin Chou (UCSF) introduced a bidirectional feedback model to promote effective health communication skills in healthcare teams.

An idea I shared was to incorporate this feedback exchange while setting expectations with new mentees/ors. It’s harder to request a mentor to listen to feedback when there is a power difference.
