I am thankful and relieved that the TDSB has ended its specialized programs lottery and reinstated merit-based admissions. Once again, hard work will mean something in Toronto’s public schools. Please see my statement below. https://t.co/smTMkUhjrN

Three years ago, on October 24, 2022, with your trust and support, I was honoured to be elected as the @TDSB Trustee for Willowdale. It was the beginning of our shared fight for fairness and integrity in education. Please see my letter below thanking my supporters.

Yesterday’s announcement on a return to merit-based admissions at @TDSB gives hope to families who believe effort and talent should be recognized. A fair admissions process is what our kids deserve.
We have been clear that every decision in education must focus on improving student outcomes. Restoring a fair admissions process at the TDSB based on merit, is about ensuring students' achievements are recognized.

Thank you to Minister @sflecce for setting the groundwork for today's announcement with a letter to the TDSB in May 2024, expressing “serious concern” about its lottery admissions policy. All boards have a responsibility to put student interests first. https://t.co/ctRjoyTw4r

TDSB staff is expected to submit a report on the policy at a May 29 committee meeting, where Stephen Lecce’s letter will also be discussed by trustees.

Thank you to the brave @TDSB students, teachers and parents for speaking out against the failed TDSB lottery social experiment. The data shows that the lottery has hurt student achievement. And now, it's clear it is also hurting student engagement. https://t.co/zypZZz2bMo

The TDSB says an update to its controversial admissions policy is coming— and it’s expected soon since applications for next year open in November.

Evil must never be normalized. Canada must stand with the victims, not the murderers. On this painful anniversary, we remember the innocent lives lost and pray for peace and the safe return of all hostages.
Honouring the very terrorists who murdered innocent civilians on Oct 7 — the two-year anniversary of the largest attack on Jews since the Holocaust — is twisted, offensive, and unCanadian. It's beyond appalling to think that this morally degenerate group will glorify the

I support cancelling this sham consultation. The outcome was decided from the start. Parent and student voices were never meant to matter. It’s time to stop the woke activist agenda and restore common sense, transparency, and merit in our schools. https://t.co/Rpcx0CKX2B

Toronto’s school board announced plans last spring to review the policy and launched a public survey. In recent weeks, the board said an update is coming and the consultations will not continue.

Supervision is not the danger some of my colleagues claim it to be. It is the long-overdue solution. Read my article in @TheTorontoSun about why Minister @PaulCalandra's overhaul of the #TDSB is exactly what Toronto families need. https://t.co/EsUY7g0CLn

Another family shattered. Violent crime is out of control. Canada's failing bail laws are costing lives. The provincial government has done its part. It's time for the federal government to act. This broken system must change.
I want to pay tribute to a friend. Only two weeks ago, I spent time with Aleem Farooqi and his son at my community BBQ. This is the photo. While protecting his children, Aleem was brutally and tragically killed in his home. An unimaginable tragedy for his family and for the

A pleasure to join Minister @sflecce at his annual community BBQ in Vaughan. Deeply appreciative for his principled leadership on the provincial, national, and international stage working to secure Ontario’s energy future. Wonderful to see old friends and meet new ones.

It has become abundantly clear that the TDSB is dysfunctional. @TDSBDirector has been consistently unaccountable and unresponsive to the community. I welcome Minister @PaulCalandra’s appointment of a provincial supervisor to bring the board back on track.

Trustees cannot decide on the new specialized programs policy without hard data. I pressed @TDSBDirector to fix the "feedback survey" that skips a key question: does the TDSB community support the admissions lottery? Without that, this "consultation" is inane & pointless.

Yesterday, I attended 9 #TDSB graduations. 5 schools had no AC in their gyms or cafeterias. One teacher passed out from the heat. I wrote to @TDSBDirector with solutions but heard nothing. Drinking water & open windows won’t cut it at 45°C. Our students & staff deserve better.

At their final Board Meeting, Student Trustees Angelika Bell, Derian Westra, and Jenny Xing were recognized for their leadership, advocacy, and commitment to student voice. We wish them continued success as they begin their next chapter.

Trustees voted down the special education plan presented by @TDSBDirector. But the Director called it an "operational" decision and will be proceeding anyways. Trustee Hastings put it succinctly: "Why did you waste a half hour of our time if what we said didn't mean anything?"

Last night, @TDSB Trustees on the Finance Committee voted against the draft budget. I cannot support a budget that hurts music, special education and pool access while doing nothing to reduce the size of TDSB senior staff. TDSB families deserve better.
