I've been so busy I didn't realize the Medicaid Re-entry Act was included in the Build Back Better legislation. This allows Medicaid to cover health services during the last 30 days of incarceration + create linkages to community-based care. This is super important!

@DrKimSue @KeithNHumphreys Hmm, inmates are already eligible for medicaid when they are released because they have no income. Sounds like useless legislation because it already happens.

@DrKimSue Same exact section also works to improve churn in CHIP. There's so much in this bill ... so much that would be helpful to families.

@DrKimSue @benwikler Democrats would do themselves a favor by pointing things like this out for 2022 election, particularly that Republicans voted against linkages to better health and well being.

@DrKimSue @KeithNHumphreys Also, wouldn’t you think that if a person has just spent a couple of years behind bars they would no longer be addicted?

@DrKimSue Yes! I’ve been a COSA volunteer. All the men I met coming out of prison had no insurance coverage even though eligible for medicaid. It meant lapses in medication and treatments while they struggled to sign up and cope with needs.

@DrKimSue Last 30 days, awesome (this is sarcasm — can’t believe anyone would praise us settling for so little)

@DrKimSue Thank you for bringing attention to this Dr. Sue! I am also watching the Medicaid Reentry Act closely, and recently wrote about it for the The Hill.
