I've been so busy I didn't realize the Medicaid Re-entry Act was included in the Build Back Better legislation. This allows Medicaid to cover health services during the last 30 days of incarceration + create linkages to community-based care. This is super important!

Hmm, inmates are already eligible for medicaid when they are released because they have no income. Sounds like useless legislation because it already happens.

Democrats would do themselves a favor by pointing things like this out for 2022 election, particularly that Republicans voted against linkages to better health and well being.

Yes! I’ve been a COSA volunteer. All the men I met coming out of prison had no insurance coverage even though eligible for medicaid. It meant lapses in medication and treatments while they struggled to sign up and cope with needs.

Thank you for bringing attention to this Dr. Sue! I am also watching the Medicaid Reentry Act closely, and recently wrote about it for the The Hill.
