Great commentary in @JAMA_current this week by Health Policy and Management at @EmoryRollins's David Howard. David discusses the role and challenges of the False Claims Act in rooting out fraud and abuse in Medicare and Medicaid. What's the role of the Supreme Court?

Outside my window @EmoryRollins, I see the CDC. Nearly 40% of CDC’s public health degrees were earned at Rollins. CDC staff teach our courses, partner in research, and are our neighbors, friends, and family. Rollins and CDC are deeply linked. Today, I walked my usual route

This rhetoric is dangerous. It's what causes shooters to take on CDC, hospitals, and doctors. It's insulting and untrue. I spent the last week taking care of very sick infants in the newborn intensive care unit. I had NO incentive other than to show up, and serve my patients.
Doctors, hospitals, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical giants profit by keeping Americans sick.

The back-and-forth between HHS and the nation’s top doctors is creating confusion and sowing distrust among patients, experts say.

One issue that I haven't heard as much attention paid to as it deserves regarding the Big Beautiful Bill is the effect on states - especially poor red Medicaid expansion states. Changes to Medicaid and SNAP in the bill push a lot onto states. They make states far more

🚨 Today, Congress passed the largest cut to SNAP (food stamps) in U.S. history—slashing more than $200 billion in support for families. Just weeks ago, we released The State of Child Health and Well-Being report, which revealed that more than 1 in 3 families with children in

The @AmerAcadPeds, along with other organizations, will continue to produce a vaccine schedule. As HHS and ACIP fall into uncertainty - vaccine misinformation, anti-vaccine and anti-pediatrician rhetoric - I am grateful for the organizations that are stepping up to serve our

If you had scripted this as a possible dystopian future for me a year ago, it would seem too far-fetched to be real. Harm is already being done. I worry more is on the way. I use the vaccine schedule every time I'm working in the newborn intensive care unit. I rely on ACIP

The reconstituted C.D.C. panel will revisit the standard vaccination schedule. The former head of an anti-vaccine group is now a special federal employee.

This weekend, I attended Hope Blooms, a fundraiser for Project Hope for Women & Children @marshallu, which provides a lifeline for moms and babies affected by the opioid crisis in Huntington, WV. West Virginia has been impacted by the opioid crisis more than any other state.

"We’ve come too far to retreat now. Let’s keep our foot on the gas and finish the job." The current budget conversations happening in Washington are critical. Medicaid is responsible for a large share of #opioid treatment in the US. As Stephen Loyd says ... let's move forward

Today, I can say something I never imagined possible 20 years ago: We are finally making real progress in the fight against drug overdoses in America.

My comments today on The Take @11AliveNews about firearm deaths in kids. Firearms are the leading cause of death among US children. A recent study in @JAMAPediatrics found that states with weaker laws had higher rates of death. In our recent poll of Georgia parents, we

Doctors said it was “inevitable” that Josseli Barnica would miscarry. Yet they waited 40 hours for the fetal heartbeat to stop. She died of an infection 3 days later. @Propublica explores her death and how absolutely preventable it was. 👇

Josseli Barnica is one of at least two pregnant Texas women who died after doctors delayed emergency care. She’d told her husband that the medical team said it couldn’t act until the fetal heartbeat...
