Interesting that some regard “profit” as a dirty word. Founding shareholders of our clinic have donated over $200 million from their “profits” in operating successful businesses to the public health system. The new St. Paul’s Hospital is being built on land held by another two of

The Alberta Premier @ABDanielleSmith is revealing herself as Canada’s leading advocate for a health system that works to save lives rather than one that forces sick Canadians to suffer and die on wait lists.
My latest: Alberta is about to test public-private health care. Canada will be watching https://t.co/pURDinX24Y

20 years ago today I chaired this conference which included renowned speakers from around the world. It was described by a major media outlet as “a pivotal moment in Canadian history”. Sadly, the lessons we learned from other countries were never embraced by governments.

Many naive (or simply uneducated) Canadians speak out against 2-Tier healthcare. They need a reality check. The following lists exempt groups who can legally use private healthcare in Canada. And also 70% of Canadians have private insurance for meds, ambulances, dentistry etc.

"It’s chaos 24/7," says a nurse of life inside Manitoba's largest hospital. They say the lack of bed space and staff is creating impossible working conditions.

I wonder what logic our Vancouver tree protection department is applying - in terms of environmental benefits - in mandating the use of well over 10 times the volume of wood and a lot of plastic to try and protect a small tree from damage during a nearby home construction?

Unless governments act, Canadians will continue to wait in dangerous conditions – and more families will face tragic, preventable loss.

Every shift I feel like I'm being set up to fail. Government neglect leading to crowding, hallway medicine and reliance on a CT scanner 25 kms away. Some solace in knowing that my misery is shared by every other emergency physician.

Politicians and judges who support our failing health system deserve much worse than being the object of satirical humour. The problem is they don't suffer or die on waitlists, and can therefore safely ignore the estimated 28,000 plus Canadians (see the @SecondStreetOrg study)

In 2016 a Canadian teenager was forced to die as a result of fiscal and legal constraints imposed by governments. In any other developed country she would have lived. Who can support such a system?

Almost 30 years ago, I agreed to debate Andrew Petter, a BC Minister of Health and a former university Dean of Law. At the last minute, Petter withdrew, claiming he had not been adequately briefed to debate health law with an orthopaedic surgeon. CBC substituted a union leader.
