Following the events of the weekend at Durdle Door and elsewhere, Leader of Dorset Council, Cllr Spencer Flower, has written to the Prime Minister and to Dorset MPs calling for changes to travel rules requiring people to STAY LOCAL for now

The roads to
#LulworthCove
and
#DurdleDoor
REMAIN CLOSED today (Sunday 31 May). You will not be able to visit the beaches there and will be asked to turn around if you try and access the villages. We will review tomorrow, but for now please AVOID the area.
Rockfalls and Landslips can happen at anytime. These people had a lucky escape. The South West Coast Path above the cliff at West Bay is currently closed. Thanks to Daniel Knagg for the footage.

You may have read stories in the press claiming that the cycle lane on Wimborne Road West is one of the widest in Britain and that the width of the road is contrary to Highway standards. This is incorrect. Read our clarification here 👉
Please avoid Durdle Door and the Lulworth area. The beach has been CLOSED due to two helicopters having to land for two separate incidents. High volumes of traffic as beach goers depart from the scene.
Thank you
@TravelDorset
The counts are in with 42 seats won, the Liberal Democrats have won control of Dorset Council.

There's been another cliff fall just East of Seatown . About 300m of the cliff has been affected including the coast path. The path has been cordoned off. The cliff is still very unstable and more is expected to be lost. Please take notice of safety signs.
Car parks at visitor destinations including beaches and country parks across Dorset will stay closed for the time being. Public toilets will also remain closed due to the difficulty for social distancing to be maintained.

If you currently have an online delivery slot with a supermarket but you are fit and healthy, it would be an amazingly generous thing to do, to give up that slot so that a very vulnerable person who is being ‘shielded’ for 12 weeks can have a delivery slot.

From tomorrow, it's compulsory to wear a face covering in all shops and supermarkets to help stop the spread of coronavirus, unless you're exempt.

⚠️Rockfall warning - There has been a rockfall at Hive Beach, Burton Bradstock. Our rangers are on the scene and are assessing the rockfall and coastal path on the cliffs above. Please stay away.
You might see some strange machinery on the Weymouth Relief Road verges over the next couple of days. A team from a local seed nursery are collecting wildflower seed so that it can be used in other habitat creation schemes in Dorset and further afield🌼

We've had another big rockfall on East Beach at West Bay.
The beach is currently cut off, with no access to Burton Bradstock from West Bay and vice versa. We're investigating access to the coastal path on top too.
Please avoid the area, especially near the cliff base and edge.
Our highways officers have been helping deliver Easter eggs as part of the food boxes for our most vulnerable residents. We know some families have been worried about not being able to get chocolate eggs for their children, so it's been lovely to be able to help 😊

Thinking about going to the beach this weekend? Think again. We're asking people not to drive to a beach, park or local beauty spot this weekend to stop people congregating and not observing social distancing. All beach car parks are closed
#StayHomeSaveLives
From Monday holders of an older persons' or disabled persons' bus pass will be able to use buses before 9.30am to get to supermarkets that are opening early for the elderly and those 'at risk' of catching the coronavirus.
We have suspended charges in all our off-street car-parks with immediate effect.
This is to help key workers, volunteers and residents with finding somewhere convenient to park during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

We've had some concerning reports about a sky lantern release in support of the NHS 😱
Sky lanterns cause fires, create litter and kill wildlife and livestock.
Want to support the NHS? Please stay at home. And clap on Thursdays at 8pm 👏
This is Chester. He goes to school on one of our buses and he wants to be a bus driver just like John who drives his bus. Chester's talented dad has made him a bus driver outfit. This made us smile this morning - thank you Chester.

As expected, a large section of Highlands Park cliff near West Bay fell overnight.
An alternative path taking people away from the fall has been provided by Highlands End Holiday Park. Walkers must read the on-site information, not climb over the barriers and follow this path.
We're staying at home this weekend, even though it's lovely and ☀️sunny. Don't be tempted to go to the beach or that beauty spot you love. If you go out for some exercise, stay close to home. Relax, enjoy your lie in, look after each other😊

We did this and people ignored our road closures and barriers, drove through them and verbally abused our guys who were asking people to turn round. This makes us really sad and is actually quite sole destroying. It's their health and ours we are trying to protect.
The Dorset coast path is part of the SWCoast Path National Trail. It's designated as a walking route for most of it's length. We want people to use this wonderful asset for walking. Cyclists shouldn't be using the coast path for their exercise. More info
