I think its less "fake dumb" and more just lying by omission. She acts just as "dumb" when shes around classmates and Fami. Shes clearly very intelligent, but shes also lived with denji and adopted his mannerisms.

in all the chaos this went over my head... Denji isn't just no longer in control of his own life and perception, he's now no longer capable of following through on giving Nayuta some kind of normal family life. He could take on every single devil that just spawned, don't matter.
Denjis face of shock here is so heartbreaking, everything he wanted to shield Nayuta from, the normal life he wanted to give her was all ripped away from her, she's just as involved in this as he is, he failed to preserve her childhood

This is what a lot of people who think denji isn't "likeable" are missing imo. He is consistently one of the only positive parts of several characters lives in this manga despite having 0 reason to be considering his circumstances and backstory. 1/2
The positive effect Denji has on others, despite going through such extreme levels of neglect and manipulation his whole life, is a beautiful thing to see

this thread is refreshing because denji discourse usually boils down to him either being some innocent sweet angel child, or total scum despite the entirety of the series suggesting a gray area. he's a stunted individual because these flaws take real work/healing to overcome.
maybe a cold ass take but if I said that a good part of the reason why denji initially seeks women out for companionship is not because he immediately empathizes with them but because they are potential sources of fulfilling his sexual/romantic desires
