Former Raiders WR great Cliff Branch has passed away. He turned 71 on Thursday. Team owner Mark Davis canceled plans to attend a Las Vegas function tonight upon learning news, per @johnnykats. Davis and Branch were very close. Entire organization in mourning.

Talk about waking up feeling dangerous. Cliff Branch was dangerous every time he stepped on the football field. Here’s hoping he’s recognized next year in Canton in the expanded 20-man HOF class.

My hotel in Westfield, IN is very new and nice. From it you can see no other things. I am at the bar with an Iowa corn/soybean farmer who asked me what percentage of the acres I drive through this afternoon looked unplanted. I have never been less qualified to answer a question.

Drove by this twice today, 40 years to the day since Yankees great Thurman Munson died after crashing his new plane near this airport. Remember that tragic story in the summer of ‘79 like it was yesterday.

Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco unsurprisingly didn't see a snap tonight for Atlanta and Denver, but they have history together. It was 11 years ago they were both 2008 first-round QBs, and became the first two rookie passers to start all 16 games and lead their teams to the playoffs.

Someone in my family -- no names -- once told me they thought the Hall of Fame Game was played by a bunch of former NFL stars now in Canton. Ridiculous notion, of course. But I think I like that idea better than this. I mean, probably not watching many (if any?) HOFers tonight.
