Small intimate venues like City Hall and @GibGarrisonLib Library don’t need grand recorded announcements or walk-ins. The very able presenters could easily ask people to switch off phones etc. All that pomp detracts from the intimacy of the event.

It may be over-organised. Even in the Royal Festival Hall the Royal box is discreet. Seats for officials and participants should be to the side and the best seats for the paying punters.

Compared to 2013/14 has become more a Book Festival and though I get hooked by the politics, it cries out for a big balance of creative / literary atmosphere and appearances.
