Anyway, I loved learning the analogy of spoons and am currently addicted to Korean Game Shows. I hope the west can normalize a respectful approach to localization and maybe try using other cultural slang like "grass", "www" instead of making it "lol"!.

3/3.If it had been sanitized or erased for the comfort of the Western audience, many people watching would not have learned of that cultural way of thinking. When it is a Korean show, taking that out feels like colonialism and the erasure of the original culture and meaning to me.

2/3.It is a Korean analogy regarding your privilege. The saying "to be born with a golden spoon" is to be born privileged or wealthy, while born a "dirty spoon" is born poor. It's not racist. It's a class identifier.

1/3.For example:.I recently watched "Culinary Class Wars". The are the "Black Spoons" (or "dirty spoons") and "White Spoons". The Black Spoons are seen as being "peasants" and the White Spoons are "kings" of cooking. Some American viewers found this racist, but it isn't.

I personally see translators changing the original intention of overseas work as a form of colonization.
