Proud to work @unmc! Highlighting #FemaleScientists and #nursing as a #STEM field is #innovation. That said, my career in a nutshell = #GRIT #Creativity #WorkEthic #Serendipity and a little bit of #luck

Be gritty. Sometimes that’s just all it is. This is a season and like all things worth working for, it requires grit. I wish I had sometime more profound, but it’s really that simple.

Adjust expectations. Little kids are hard. I’ve yet to meet anyone that says the years between 1-4 were the easiest. So, don’t expect it to be and take it as a win when you get a day that no one yells about a snack.

Discipline. I used to be a bit of a free spirit, but that doesn’t work as a mom of 3. Every day, I do the same things at the same time, I eat healthy and often, I work out, mostly drink just water, have a bedtime and wake up alarm. It won’t always have to be this way.

Sometimes work needs to happen at odd hours. That’s okay. We fiercely protect 3:30-7:00pm. Minimal meetings, maximum family time. This often means the computer comes back out after bedtime. We try not to make a habit of it, but sometimes it’s the only option.

Use your resources to buy help. It’s not glorious, but it’s the only way we’ve survived with two intense careers and no family around. Instead of new clothes/vacations, we hired people to clean the house once/month, do weekly food prep & laundry, watch the kids for date night.

It’s your responsibility to protect your time. People will say they “honor it” but no one else will do that for you. This is still a work in progress for me, and as a recovering ‘people pleaser’, it’s hard!!!

She waited long enough for me to submit my #tenuredossier 7 years, 3 babies…building family and an academic career at the same time has not been easy, but there’s been a lot of joy along the way. What I’ve learned, a 🧵 @Momademia

Doesn't matter how much tech gets thrown at healthcare - humans heal humans. Full stop. Tech can should support those relationships, not replace them. @familyroomcares asked patients and families drive the solution. Excited to see the response - launching DTC 2025!
There's a whole lot of health-tech companies who think AI must be part of their core messaging. But it's really what investors want to hear; I'm not convinced it'll win over patients or clinicians. https://t.co/uSx4cF9Ykp

#maternityleave should not require 2 years of strategically banking 160+ vacation hours in order to get paid. The reality of #motherhood in #academia. We’re supposed to be leaders in progressive policy, this is just sad. I will die on this hill. @AcademicMamas @Momademia

Return to office mandates don't just motivate junior people to jump ship. They lose talent at the top too. When tech companies started requiring attendance, senior leaders were more likely to leave for competitors. Flexibility is an investment in retention at all levels.

I’ve never been so entertained in my life. And, evidently neither have the 8th graders…who have evidently created an official unicorn kitty #Facebook page Maybe we should all just vote for unicorn kitty this year. 🦄😸 #WeThePeople #UnitedStates #USPresidentialelection2024

She is now giving me tours through the house, just like dad. Tonight’s lesson in her own words, “This is the Washington statue. He was our 1st president and now he’s dead”.

Every place they visit, a photo is taken and sent home to our pre-k wonder. She has to find it on the map and then learn one fact about it which she then sends via voice message back to dad.

My husband works for @globaltravelalliance, a top-notch student travel company. He loves his job but he’s gone a lot. We have two little girls with one on the way. This year in particular, our 5 year old is struggling with dad’s travels.

As I’ve been exploring my goals, values, roles, etc with an exec coach for the last 6 months, this comes up a lot. I love my work, but not at the expense of my well-being. My PhD level salary can’t even cover mortgage + childcare without a dual income. #AcademicChatter
First they called it “quiet quitting” Now they call it “quiet vacationing” Know what’s not quiet? How tired millennials are of BS corporate culture. We tried climbing the ladder and we still can’t buy houses or save for retirement. Agree with Peter Guse on this one. Out:

So proud of this feature. -- b/c of the women who I was featured alongside -- b/c my girls were a part of it -- b/c it represents who I am I've never been the smartest in the room, I've always just worked the hardest and refused to take "no" as a fact. #WomeninSTEM #Nurisng
