Stop abandoning vulnerable people. Disability justice SAVES lives. We knew this was coming - but few people listened. Also stop acting like “the vulnerable” is an obscure group that could never possibly include you. We are in this together & need to organize and act like it.

Mansour Shouman speaking on Al Jazeera from Gaza just made a very good point that there’s a pandemic still going on and the 2.3 million people of Gaza are trapped in crowded homes, schools and hospitals, with no medication, contaminated water and dwindling food.

I think of disabled people in conflicts. There are people in Gaza right now who need electricity to breathe or move. There are people who physically can’t make the long arduous journey to possible safety. Telling disabled people “24 hours to leave” is telling them to die.

society to disabled ppl: "Just reach out for help if you need it!" also society to disabled ppl: • "Disability is a failure to cope" • "Ppl with disabilities try to game the system" • "Disability is now a status symbol" • "Ppl use disability as a fashion accessory" etc.

I've been disappointed by so many people who claim to be socialists, leftists, etc. but happily promote not wearing masks (not due to medical reasons), not taking any covid precautions, etc. As soon as they got vaccinated with their first two or three shots, they abandoned us.

Another year, another end of year season where news pundits do their review of the year with no mention of disabled people despite the fact that disabled people continue to be disproportionately affected by the biggest stories of the year.

🧵 #COP27 ends this week, and disabled people were once again left out of the climate conversation—despite making up 15% of the global population. To #CripUpClimate, I’m sharing here some of my work and other resources on the intersection of disability & climate justice ♿️🌎⬇️

I am so so tired of the “there will be exceptions for disabled ppl” thing of justifying ableist policies. Let me ask abled ppl, how would you feel if your basic needs were always characterized as “exceptions” that needed applications & approvals?

(B)OrderS Centre @QMSchoolofLaw Book Forum left us with considerable food for thought on how we can continue to advance the rights of persons with disabilities in #refugee and #migration settings. Congratulations @StephanieMotz for a wonderful book & to fellow panellists👇

Zach told me a couple of weeks ago he was expanding this episode into a larger conversation and I’m still proud to be a part of it. Have a listen

My friend Emily caught the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics and was pissed at the overwhelming infantilization. I never watch them because these are some of the best athletes in the country and people are treating them like show and tell at the school field day.

People will go and say the most ableist things and act like disabled people don’t exist. We exist and we know how you feel about us.

Willful ignorance regarding current COVID transmission rates, severity of disease onset, and long term impacts is inexcusable. There is so much to read to prove that things are not "normal." Your insistence that they are is ableism and the policies being enacted are eugenics.
