I just looked up my #NYC apartment building in the #1950census and, to my delight, residents are enumerated including their *unit number* - a rarity in earlier censuses. I found the couple living in my apartment in 1950, and clearly I'll now be up all night researching them.

9 minutes in, and just found my first relatives in the #1950census. Workflow that is easiest for me right now is to use the @Ancestry district finder (which lets us search by address), and then browsing through the images by town (and then ED) on

Dear government orgs: Don't be stingy with giving genealogists access to records that are or should be legally open to the public. RTR may sue you. Save yourself the trouble and make your records available.

We all have 8 great-grandparents and none of us can name them all, so I advise focusing on your legacy a little less and just trying to have a cool, weird happy life.
