A Canadian women's soccer Olympic gold.
A Canadian women's hockey Olympic gold.
Canadian sporting women have provided moments that will last a lifetime.
BLIND HOCKEY SERIES
Players must have only 10 per cent vision or less, and goalies must be completely blind.
The puck is larger and made of metal. It has ball bearings in it so it rattles and players can locate it. Here’s some of the action.

One of my favourite moments of the Olympics just now.
A dad and his son standing on the corner near the pool waving at each bus as it passes by.
That is magic. Pure magic. Outstanding.

Canadian women’s gold medal soccer game: 4.4 million viewers.
Canadian women’s gold medal hockey game: 2.7 million viewers.
Both were the most watched games of the Summer and Winter Olympics.
That’s Brian Burke and Brendan Shanahan walking in today’s Toronto Pride Parade as a part of the MLSE groups.
Burke has been an incredible ally in this space. Always showing up.
Showing up matters.
“I can’t even describe this right now” says captain Christine Sinclair.
“We came here with the goal of changing the colour of the medal and we landed on top of the podium. Never say die”
This tweet about my 7-11 adventures in Tokyo at the Olympics has been retweeted more than 3,300 times.
Wild. Absolutely wild. (I’ll be back there tonight)

Good night sports fans.
To the young LGBTQ+ athletes, coaches, fans out there -- there's a place in sports and hockey for you.
As an openly gay national sports reporter these are difficult moments to navigate to be sure.

She’s the first Canadian singles player ever to win the US Open.
Our CBC photographer Evan Mitsui is messaging me from Pearson Airport right now.

It was in fact carrying Canadian businessman Robert Herjavec and his family.
Christine Sinclair
Wide-eyed in shock and celebration.
303 battles in Canadian red.
187 goals. Draws the penalty that gets us to this.
She's done it. She's climbed the mountain for Canada and finally has her gold.
Remember that friend of mine from Saskatoon who came to Toronto just to stand in Jurassic Park? He sent me this.

Moments before my latest CBC News hit a Weldon, Saskatchewan resident named Johnny walked over and gave camera operator Don and I two Dr. Peppers.
He then offered to “bring us some lunch because he saw us out here all day”
My people. My province. Heartbreaking day here.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY!
A peak audience of 1.3 million watched the Canada vs USA women’s hockey game on Monday, February 7, drawing CBC’s largest late night audience so far during the Games.
Dinner has been served.
Chicken, Mayonnaise Onigiri
Fried noodles, bonito and sauce
Edamame chips because I love them
And Pocari Sweat because I’m dehydrated.
The Olympic 7/11 diet of champions.
Think of what Max Parrot and Mark McMorris have overcome throughout their careers to arrive at this moment.
McMorris and that near-death experience prior to the last Games.
Parrot wins his battle with Hodgkin lymphoma.
Both on the podium again. Resilient to be sure.
Mark Nichols breaking down.
As he hugs Brad Gushue.
“You’re the best ever” Nichols said, fighting back tears. Gushue said the same thing.
Imagine their journey together over all these years.
This is a remarkable moment between two of the best Canadian curlers.

Canadian Olympic athletes who won medals in either Tokyo or Beijing are being financially rewarded for their efforts — $20,000 for a gold, $15,000 for a silver and $10,000 for a bronze
Canadian Paralympians who reached the podium in those same Games won't receive a single dollar
And then at the bottom of the package the letters.
Beautiful letters from Yoko.
About finding me on Twitter. And her 4-year-old son who loves bullet trains. And wanting me to enjoy Japan.
My heart. What a gift. Incredible.

After 18 hours of Olympic coverage, 2:10am in Tokyo, the door still opens. The shelves restocked.
What a place.

Winner, winner, chicken, dinner!
I’m too tired to go anywhere else tonight.
So I’m celebrating a historic Canadian soccer win with this meal from my favourite conbini.
Another awesome day in Japan.
#Tokyo2020
The first win in 20 years.
Only the fourth win in 64 games.
Canada stuns the United States and are into the gold medal game at the Olympics.
This is an unbelievable scene at Kashima.
GOOD MORNING CANADA
I’m keeping it light tonight.
After all the carbs for last night’s dinner, I thought the edamame (cooked in the hot box inside 7/11) and aloe vera yogurt was the right call.
The sugar butter sand tree biscuit things are not healthy. But I just ate one. And I’m hooked.
Signing off.
That ends two Olympics and Paralympics in seven months. What a journey it’s been. Incredible 🇨🇦 athlete performances. Memories for a lifetime.
It continues to be an absolute pleasure to do this work as your public broadcaster.
Miss you, Canada. Home tomorrow.

FINAL
The 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu defeats Belinda Bencic in two sets (7-6, 7-5) to become the first Canadian singles tennis player to advance to the US Open Final.

If you’re reading this. Firstly, thank you for making me feel welcome and at home in Japan.
And secondly, I love the gifts. I’ll send photos of the finished lego.
Finally. I’m sending you and your son my best wishes. This is so thoughtful of you. I won’t forget this.
RAINBOW 🌈 MAGIC
Was waiting for this all day with the rain and the sun in Tokyo and it finally happened.
Sending good vibes your way wherever this finds you.

Bruce Mouat is an openly gay skip who is now a world champion. He’s thrived since sharing his story publicly. Living authentically.
And his partner was there to see it and celebrate it with him.
Another important moment in sport.
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH
Reflection and celebration. Those early searching, scary days when I wasn’t sure what my future as an openly gay sports reporter would look like.
Still here. As passionate and committed to storytelling as ever. The work continues. So grateful for the support.
I opened up the package.
LOOK WHAT WAS INSIDE!
Lego. Bullet train lego. And a dog. And a hamburger. And a fan, with a note saying “it is an essential item for hot summer in Tokyo”
But who was it from?
#Tokyo2020
Sunday night dinner in Tokyo.
Heavy on the carbs. I’ve been running around so needing that extra energy. And the soybean and seaweed is healthy, right?
The Pocky chocolate almond biscuits are not healthy. Either are the mayonnaise-favoured chips.
#Tokyo2020
Signing off for a bit.
What a ride. Honoured to do this work as your public broadcaster.
Thank you for coming along for the Olympic journey.
Paralympics await. Get ready, Canada.
CANADA’S FIRST MEDAL AT THE OLYMPICS
The Canadian women’s 4x100m freestyle team, Sanchez, Mac Neil, Smith and Oleksiak capture silver to win Canada’s first medal at the Olympics.

Quick update on the young baseball fan who got the foul ball last night at the

game.
This is Darius. His mom Michelle direct messaged me this photo of him on the train after the game.
Sleeping. Tuckered. But clutching that magical baseball.
Guys.
Less than a year ago Mark McMorris was almost dead after a horrific crash.
Now he’s at the Olympics kicking ass. Good ole Sasky boy. Canadian tough.

HISTORIC

CANADA FOR THE WIN 🇨🇦⚽️
It’s over.
Canada 2 USA 0 the final score.
On top of the table.
Still unbeaten.
This is real. This is happening. This is Canadian soccer folks. Remarkable.
One of the rawest interviews I’ve ever seen from Brad Gushue. Tears in his eyes.
Watch the whole thing. When he goes to the virtual family screen.
And breaks down when he sees his family. At 1:35 mark.
He wanted it so bad for family and country.
