Meaningless and insignificant byproducts of capitalism’s version of meaning and significance
1 poorly made “luxury” goods
2 celebrities
3 immersive art
4 Brands making “art objects”
I feel like the Mowalola collection reflects what Globalization and imperialism feels like in other countries. The American passport with the text “United States of Amnesia” makes it more clear.
“k8 hardy began documenting her daily outfits on video in 2001 until 2012 when her camera broke. the result is her film OUTFITUMENTARY, which is almost certainly the fashion movie of
> OUR TIME”
I hate this amorphous sci-fi blob fashion trend that’s supposed to look “futuristic” and it’s like wow he consistently only used one body type the whole time… it’s painfully obvious… just weird men using women’s bodies again 🤷🏽♀️ but people really eat this shit up 🤣
Comme Des Garcons and Cindy Sherman
I love when brands like to anti-anything
“In 1994, Cindy Sherman produced a series of photographs for the clothing company Comme des Garçons that break virtually every rule of fashion photography.”
I don’t care about apolitical fashion and I don’t care about apolitical art objects. If you’re gonna create, you should carry the burden of the world you’re in
When people ignore boycotts because they’re fashion pick me’s at the end of the day.😭😭😭 pick another brand for the sake of PPL DYING VIA GENOCIDE by Israel
Margiela leaving fashion and returning to Art because the production and standards etc it’s tea and not the way to convey any meaningful messages especially the ones he wanted to share ❤️🩹
If you’re taking birth control please find a way to get a cat scan. Lie and say you have abdominal pain at the hospital lol because this shit can give you tumors. I keep seeing ppl on tiktok who have had the same exact experience as me…😭
“Denim is inherently wasteful, not just because it's sourced from water-thirsty cotton but also because it takes energy to sew the heavy fabric and more resources to achieve faded washes.”
An article i read on highsnob about Diesel Rehab denim.
“In 2011 the Museum of Children's Art in Oakland was supposed to have an exhibit showing drawings made by Palestinian children living in Gaza. The exhibit didn't happen b/c of censorship, etc.“
A lot of these are by 4th graders
Via scutttle.butt on IG
3rd order simulacra (4th stage) where there is no “original thing”. God is another good example because we don’t know where “god” came from but we have a lot of text and the idea of god.
I love that ppl just get to graffiti these ads in the subway station and there’s nothing they can do about it hehehee
the corporate fantasy ad is posted thn the people respond to it and when they’re saying “FUCK THIS” i love it even more
Watched Ichi the Killer last night and why is Jun Takahashi just the most chic human?! The costume design for this movie is perfect. The insane use of colors, light and reflective fabrics?!
(Had to close my eyes a lot cause it’s hella gore in this tho lol)
The school uniform silhouette being revisited in adulthood is ironic because in school we feel oppressed by having to wear uniforms without understanding adulthood is about being suppressed while performing servitude 🥲
Can y’all rebrand into girl terrorists here’s a moodboard for reference. We need to get the destruction and reconstruction moving already
Being okay with weapons for now
Black makeup
Reading
Graffiti referencing what you’re fighting for
Blood vandalism on corporate buildings
(human mine/core-core)
Dennis Rodman dressed this way to exercise freedom. Society hasn’t achieved any sense of freedom yet and dressing up is probably the easiest way to feel that. Even someone at this lvl of success experienced being “owned” by something other thn themselves
I’m sorry if i broke peoples brains with that tweet but remember these are my opinions. Why pay to see immersive art when you can go to a gallery for free or to a museum on their free day 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ also who ever owns immersive art exhibitions? A random rich?
Westwood reflected on the punk era "Punk folded when the Sex Pistols folded and Sid Vicious died. I realized that the kids who were interested in it were interested because of the way it looked. They all went on to do other things, and I don't think any of them had any politics.
Found a 1999 GQ and wow this headline then this…
“Nexis database lists fewer than 4,000 articles with the word trend in the headline in 1990, compared with more than 14,000 in 1997.”
😭
I’m dead cause Karma is real bb. This lady stole $300 from me lol i was buying the canvas Mary Janes and she rang my card up for $300 instead of $30 and when i told her she called me a liar. Then i read the google reviews and she did it all the time to ppl 🤣
“culture itself is now appearing not as text but as textile” -bill brown
You never have to rely on any specific brand to express what you wanna express. Brands rely on culture to produce clothing. (Writing about fans and trying to think of ways major fashion brands create fans)
“Why is Nigeria important to the US?
Bilateral Economic Engagement
Nigeria is our second largest trading partner in Africa; two-way trade between our nations expanded to over $10 billion in 2019. The United States is proud to be one of the largest foreign investors in Nigeria”
It’s crazy that the idea of sustainability is exactly this but the material is cotton instead of a cotton elastic mix. There’s still people being overworked. Producing 100s of anything a day is not sustainable i don’t care if the material is natural.
This is how jeans get distressed. You see the mask, the goggles, and yet, this worker is probably still breathing in enough of those tiny fibers to permanently damage their lungs.
If only there was a way to get holes in jeans without harming someone in the process…
Iconic sculptor Jessi Reaves walked the Eckhaus show! This is some of her work from her show last year at Bridget Donahue! Eckhaus casting is glam wow.
