As the Church's liturgical year nears its end, our Mass readings turn to the end of time. Written in times of turmoil, these Scriptures aren't meant to frighten us. Instead, they remind us of God’s enduring love and His promise to be with us no matter the sufferings of the day.

This morning, I celebrated Mass and visited with men taking part in a Discernment Weekend, four days of prayer, fellowship, and reflection inside @shmsdetroit. May the Lord open their hearts and strengthen their spirit as they continue to listen for His voice.

This Sunday brings a liturgical curve ball with the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica. Why do we honor one specific building in Rome? Perhaps because honoring our sacred spaces points us toward something much greater: the living Church we form together in Christ.

In the Gospel for All Souls Day this weekend, we are reminded that in every act of mercy, we encounter Jesus Christ. As we pray for our beloved dead and serve those in need, may we come ever closer into God’s presence, where justice and mercy are one.

It was a privilege to attend Mass in the Chaldean Rite this evening at St. Thomas the Apostle Chaldean Catholic Church. The beauty of the Mass reflected the universal truth that, across every language and culture, we are one in Christ.

It was a joy to celebrate our permanent diaconate Jubilee Mass yesterday, honoring 23 deacons whose combined 635 years of ministry have touched countless lives. May their example inspire each of us to serve with the same love and devotion.

For 75 years, the St. Frances Cabrini Clinic in Detroit has been a place where God’s love meets real human need, providing free medical care, prescriptions, education, and other support with compassion and respect. It was a joy to bless this ministry and all who carry it forward.

In the Gospels, there is always a preference for the sick over the healthy, the poor over the rich, the sinner over the smug. The unifying key is humility, quite possibly Our Lord's favorite virtue.

I eagerly welcome Pope Leo XIV’s call to confront the plight of migrants and other "new" ways of excluding the vulnerable as urgent moral issues of our time. His message reminds us that care for the suffering and marginalized is not an optional act of charity, but an essential

For 100 years, the people of St. John Paul II Parish have gathered to worship, serve, and build up the Body of Christ in Detroit. It was a joy to celebrate this milestone with them today. May God bless all who have been part of this parish’s rich history.

I leave today for the Archdiocesan convocation gathering with priests and deacons. I know we all would be grateful for your prayers, that this time together strengthens our fraternity, deepens our prayer, and reinvigorates us for the sacred work of ministry.

On today's World Day of Migrants and Refugees, I joined Strangers No Longer for Mass. I deeply appreciate their work supporting immigrant families, advocating for humane policy reform, and proclaiming the Gospel truth that Christ is present in all who leave home seeking peace.

Today we celebrated the Feast of St. Thérèse of Lisieux at Mass with her relics at Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak. The relics will be here through Oct. 8, so I encourage all to take this opportunity to visit and seek her intercession during this special time of grace.

This October, we observe Respect Life Month under the theme "Life: Our Sign of Hope." In a world that often denies the dignity of the most vulnerable, let us open our hearts to encounter Christ in every person, and in doing so, may we become true signs of hope for the world.
