As someone who tracks GDP per capita rankings every quarter, this explains why a lot of sub Saharan African countries' (ie Congo, Angola, Zambia) numbers swing so rapidly (that and commodity prices). There is a good chance SSA is poorer than the stats imply.
How do they calculate GDP in Africa? . In Zambia, one guy just sits in a room and makes up a number.
