We are a family owned farm in California's fertile Central Valley where the soil and climate are the best for growing delicious organic melons.🍈🍉🍒
California, USA
Joined April 2016
Cover crops in our orchards are a regenerative practice that will help our soil health, reduce soil compaction, and, according to research, will NOT require additional water consumption.
Chris @pettyranch posted pictures of his cover crops, and prompted me to go out in muddy conditions to check mine. This is our first attempt on our almonds. We didn’t drill it in. We flew the seed on, and let Mother Nature take over. Rains came like a blessing. @DelBosqueFarms

Working as fast as we can to get our melon beds up before the rain. This tractor works day and night. We will install drip lines in March and plant organic melons in April and May. #California #thefarmlife @JohnDeere @CCOForganic @ReclamationCGB

Irrigating our #cherries. Even though harvest season is in May, the trees need water almost all year long. #California’s dry climate is ideal for sweet cherries, but they require #irrigation. Buds for next year’s #crop are developed in the fall.

We have many visitors come to our farm. Sometimes they’re only 5 or 6 years old. This day agriculture was their classroom. #AgInTheClassroom

Both the tomato harvesters and the tomato varieties were developed by research at UC Davis. This ag research changed the industry.
I drove tomato trucks one summer to earn money while at UC Davis. After the farmer fills up the trailers, they get parked at the edge of the field and truckers pick them up to take to the processing plants. It was an exhausting job: 12 hours on, 12 off. But memorable.

Over Labor Day weekend, we honored the workers who power our economy. I'm especially thankful for the farmworkers who harvest our crops and put food on our table. Valley farmer Joe @DelBosqueFarms talks more about how farmworkers feed our nation:

California’s University system keeps California agriculture on the cutting edge, not just for a few crops, but many, many crops. Research is a vital part of our dynamic agriculture.
UC research has developed crop varieties that can withstand drought, floods and disease, tools and techniques that enhance productivity, and uses science-backed solutions to maximize the state’s precious water supply. https://t.co/q1MA3t9doq

How can the USDA forget farmworkers on #LaborDay? As a farmer, I’m dismayed. Please join me in a salute to all farmworkers and others from planting, to harvesting, to delivering our crops to food on our tables.
This Labor Day, we honor the hardworking farmers, ranchers, food safety inspectors, foresters, and wildland firefighters who work tirelessly to put food on our tables and protect our resources and communities. Your hard work contributes to the prosperity of our nation.
