I was gonna make an April Fools joke about psychiatry finally finding biomarkers for the 541 mental disorders they’ve invented to medicate, sedate and imprison people, but it’s just too far-fetched.

saw this quote and thought about how a safe therapeutic space can break down the burden of shame. as a trainee, I've also noticed that a safe supervision space frees me from the shame I might experience from the mistakes I've made or things I've forgotten.

"When humans are suffering under unliveable conditions, we’re told something is wrong with us, and expected to keep pushing through... the most effective therapy would be transforming the oppressive aspects of society causing our pain" - Sanah Ahsan 👇🏼

“People stay poor because they lack opportunity. It is not their intrinsic characteristics that trap people in poverty but rather their circumstances.” A large-scale study in Bangladesh shows passing a threshold of assets allows families to escape poverty. https://t.co/GjO5FAlqDt

I drew this when thinking about how I want to embody social justice work in my capacity as a trainee clin psych. working therapeutically on placement is great, but I'm always holding in mind the wider context and what I can do to facilitate systems and policy change.

Leaders who fail to listen ultimately find themselves surrounded by silence. You don't get chosen to take charge unless you give good answers. You won't be able to make change unless you ask good questions. Learning depends on making it safe for people to tell you the truth.

We shouldn't wait until undergrad to teach research methodology. Everyone should have a basic understanding of the importance of control groups, how data is collected, what a credible source is, and what it takes to critically evaluate scientific and non-scientific pubs.
